Subject: Fog Effect Is Messing Up Alphas

Hi Everyone,   I made some low poly girders to build a big structure. I used an alpha map to cut the holes in a three sided polygon and it worked fine until I tried to use the fog effect on the scene. As you can see from the picture, it looks like the fog has doubled inside those girders at the back. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

EDIT:
The higher up girders aren't inside the fog effect.

Object accuracy setting is?  Lighting quality setting is?  If GI is used, are both light through transparancy seetings on?

Is this the default fog built into Carrara, or a plugin?

I tried all the render presets from lowest to highest and ticked the Light through transparency option each time and ticked the second one when GI was enabled and there was no difference.

This is the default box shaped one. I inserted it, moved it into position and scaled it to fit the area.

Could  the problem be in the shader? As a test I set Colour to grey and for Alpha I chose Texture Map and pointed it to my alpha map (I even checked that the black and white values in my alpha map were perfect black and white). The remaining values I set to None. When I rendered again I got the same result.

Tonight I'll play around with alphas in fog using different light types.

Thanks for that.  :)

I played with a cube of fog and had the same problem you did.  I deleted the fog cube and ended up turning on realistic sky and using the fog from that.  More powerful.

Thanks again Shonner. I'll try the same thing.
