Subject: Why does clothes appear invisible when I select them from library?

mercblue22 ( ) posted Thu, 05 July 2007 at 4:51 AM · edited Wed, 05 February 2025 at 12:31 AM

Hello,
I'm having problems with the clothes appearing next to the figures when I try and add them to the figure. What is happening is that the clothes seem to be there, but are invisible. I have a bunch of outfits this is happening to that are V3-based, made for the V3 figure. Can someone please help me with this, maybe its a glitche or something I have to do to correct the problem.

As always, any help would be appreciated. :)

First--check to see if they're there.  Go to the material room, and select them from item menu. Then make sure they are selected, and look at the figure Properties tab and make sure visibility is checked.

If all the above look good, do a test render to see if they render, even if they preview invisible.

If they STILL show invisible--close down Poser and re-open.  If it's Poser 7--it IS a bug.  Some few rare outfits translate out of sight in random directions. Click on BODY in body-part arrow on the figure palette.  Look at the translation dials after the clothing is conformed.  The settings SHOULD be ZERO.  If they aren't--zero them and see if they appear.

If that doesn't work--I'm out of ideas.  I still have one outfit that disappears when conformed. T__T

First I'd try JOELGLAINE's suggestion of rendering to see if they show up. Could be a transparency map issue.

..or If the obj file is not in the correct folder that the cr2 is referencing it to, can cause the item to be listed as "being there" but the geometry will not show up at all.

When you add the clothing from the figure library, does the clothing show?

Does the clothing "vanish" after you apply a texture to it? If this is the case then you can get the clothing to show up again by clicking on the material room tab, looking at the poser surface window and turning the transparency dial.  Before you go back to the pose room, put the transparency back to what it was initially.

Hello all,
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and replies, I just got to Poser right now and am going to try the options everyone has said. See, I never use the material room to open clothes, I just find them in my library tab to the right and just ckick the checkmark, 'create new figure' Maybe this is the problem, you think? I'll reply in a few mins to let you all know if the suggestions mentioned worked. :)

No, you are applying the clothing properly in the pose room by looking in the figure library and clicking the double checkmark to add a new figure to the scene.  Don't click the single checkmark because that will replace the figure you have in the scene with the new figure you are adding.

Hello all,
Alright, I've been trying to follow the directions that Joel has given and applied the clothes (in this case, jeans) to victoria 4 (they are V4 jeans) and it still not showing. Now, I'm assuming when he said item menu, he meant library, right? And, because I'm very new to this poser, I just installed all my clothes items into the Poser 7 folder, so, the jeans and other clothes appear in the pose library, I'm not sure if thats correct either. Now, Acadia, the only option I have from poser when I try adding the jeans to the figure is the single checkmark that says, 'apply original pose' I'm guessing that the clothes are in the incorrect folder, right? :

mercblue22 - the clothing should be either in a "Figures" library or a "Props" library.  It sounds like you are trying to apply a MAT pose to clothing items that are actually not in the scene.
Are you saying that everything you installed is in a Pose library? - Are you sure you installed clothing items or just a set of textures meant to be applied to existing clothing items?
It's a bit difficult to get a grip on just what is going on there, but it sounds like you are not putting any geometry in the scene at all.
Do you have a link to the actual product you downloaded?

ah ok there's your problem you are applying material poses, those are not clothing but materials for clothing. Clothing will be in cr2 format and will be found in the figures library. you may not have the clothing that your materials are for, can you give us the name of the packages you are trying to use?

mercblue22 ( ) posted Thu, 05 July 2007 at 9:36 PM

Thats it!
Yeaaa, most of these have MAT! by the names! Awww, I thought these were actual clothes I have, no wonder why there are no clothes appearing! (I have a lot of hair doing the same thing) : And here, all this time, I thought MAT was either the creator of these or a figure that uses them like (SP or V3) Damn, so what I have is worthless if its all MATs, right?

These are the Glamour Jeans I got from Rendosity's site,

Damn, thats sucks, does anyone know where I can find clothes for the item I just listed? (and if I see most pose items are add-ons, like I found some skins of models for V3, when I apply them, the poser figure gets their skin tone, facial features, etc. I'm guessing all the files I have are add-ons as well.

The Glamour Jeans set contains the jeans figure plus MAT poses. You don't need another product (except for Victoria 4) to use the set.

Question: how did you install the product? If you just extracted it to your Poser 7 library, you should have the jeans figure in your Figures library.

Unfortunately - sad but true.   Unless you get the actual items the MATs are designed for, there's not much you can do with them ..

oooooooooooooooh,
Wait, SV, I got a few V figures, but I have no clue what they mean. (like V4 to V3, V 4.1 to V3, V3RR, V3SAE, V4 Base, V4.1. Any clue if these are any of them? (and what does RR and SAE mean?)

And yup Sv,
I've extracted every file to Poser 7 folder, as someone here suggested I do so. But, I have all kinds of things in different places that probably shouldnt be there (I got morphs, skin textures, hair add-ons and poses in pose library. I can take a few screen shots of my library if if might help you see what I'm talking about.

It sounds like you are really new to Poser.  Have a look at my essay for new users.

Chances are you have a whole lot of texture files for items that you don't have and because of that are of no use to you at this point unless you get the original items the textures are designed for.  All of that is explained in the link above.
