Subject: Resolution problem in Photoshop CS

carlcath ( ) posted Sun, 08 July 2007 at 9:29 AM · edited Thu, 06 February 2025 at 5:08 AM

renderosity requires the thumbnail to be min of 100 X 100 with 15KB file size max.  In Photoshop CS, I go to "image" then "image size" and nothing I change can get the image to be a min of 15 kb with the pixil size of 100 X 100 min.

I have tried the "save as"  command under "file menu" and even pushing the quality slider to low, the file size does not get to to 15 kb.  Since everybody else seems to be able to do this, I've got to be doing something wrong.

The original image is 450 X 338 with a file size of 466 kb in TIFF format.  I tried it as a JPEG image also and that did not work either.

What am I doing wrong?

If you have CS you must have ImageReady installed so I would , Change size to 100x100 or whatever you prefer,go to File>Edit in ImageReady, there you get the option to set it up for the web and the option to have 4 up at once so you can see various resolutions for quality...and well it's self explanatory once you're in ImageReady.. ...

Once in a while I look around,
I see a sound
and try to write it down
Sometimes they come out very soft
Tinkling light sound
The Sun comes up again

Yes, you don't need image ready.  When you go to save your file click 'Save for Web'.  Adjusting the quality slider will change the file size.  File size is indicated in the lower left corner of the window.

Thanks folks.
Using Image Ready seems to work best for me.  In Adobe CS when I go to "save for web" I do not get a slider.  If  I  just use "save as" I do get the slider and with some croping I can get the file size down.   Thanks for the help.

Unfortunately, my karma must have gone south for the summer and just will not let me upload pix to the site.  After I put in all the info, the little blue bar across the bottom that shows it is transferring the data goes half way across then just stops.  After 5 or 10 minutes it comes up with "cannot find server".   I'll keep trying and maybe one day it will all come together.  You may have noticed my profile shows nothing uploaded.  I use a Cingular air card since there is no cable DSL and no rapid phone service in  my area.

in cs3, the command is now called "save for web and devices". as one manipulates the thumbnail size and quality, cs3 shows the new size (KB) in the lower left corner.

Hmmmm...check again under Save for Web.  I use CS and there is a slider in the upper right corner under 'Quality.'  In any case, as long as you found a way that works, that's all that matters.

i always liked IR saving "jpgs" thumbnails because for some reason i often got errors with PS jpg dll. i use CS3 now, so IR is no longer an option... oh well it was good while it lasted :) retrocity
