Subject: Question regarding clothes

If this has been answered elsewhere, please redirect me. I've searched, but I couldn't find anything. I am curious about one thing: Why is it that with some characters, I can put clothes on them, INJ that character's body into the clothes and they conform beautifully, and with other characters I do that and nothing happens at all. Same clothes, they just act differently. Is there any particular reasoning behind that, is it something I can change in the character model, or is it just one of those weird quirks where I just have to put the information in manually to make it even remotely work? I'll give an example. I have Vexxis by VAMP3D (beautiful character) and I put her in Hongyu's Evening Dress. The dress fit properly, except in the upper chest area, so I clicked on the dress, chose Body, and clicked the body INJ for Vexxis. Nothing. So, I was playing around with Paris by Sahejaa aand Makena (another beautiful character), and I put her in Hongyu's Evening Dress. I clicked INJ, and BOOM, the dress conformed to her perfectly all over, no problems. Just one of those little curiosity things that's been bugging me. shrug

You need to be injecting your character morph IE: Vexxis, into the body of the figure IE: Vicky, not the clothing that Vicky is wearing.

Basically the basic steps are:

  1. Load figure
  2. Inject character morph
  3. Add clothing
    4.  If conforming clothing, go to "FIGURE" in the tool bar and pick "CONFORM TO" and pick the vicky figure IE: Figure 1

Clothing is made for the default figure without morphs injected. So unless the character package you bought hasn't changed the body shape at all, chances are you will have body parts poking through the clothing that you have to use the parameter dials to fit.

Not all clothing has corresponding body morphs in them and therefore can't be fit using the parameter dials.  In cases like that you need something like "The Tailor" (from Daz3D) to add some corresponding body morphs to the clothing, or a program such as  Wardrobe Wizard (From PhilC) that can fit pretty much any clothing between  any Wardrobe Wizard supported figures be they big or small figures.

You should have a look at my essay for new users if you haven't already.  Has lots of information including the various types of clothing.

Well, I know that. I do INJ into the Vicky body, but I also learned that sometimes INJ into the clothes makes the poke-throughs disappear...just not all the time for some reason. Maybe it's just a quirk my computer has. LOL.

I edited the post but you replied sooner than I expected.  Anyway, have a reread. I added some more information.

Okay. So, they have programs to help with that...unfortunately, none for a Mac, so I'll just have to live with dialing and "close enough for government work." Thanks for the answers!

The magnet kits by Netherworks also work on a Mac. Actually, they work better than The Tailor (which I also have).

What I do to create matching morphs in clothes is the following:

  • I start out by loading the appropriate Netherworks magnet set

  • I tweak the magnets until the clothes fit the character well

  • Optionally, I add extra magnets for fine control

  • Then I use the Python script supplied by Netherworks to create the morph and remove the magnets.

  • Repeat for all applicable morphs.

It's slow going, certainly not as fast as The Tailor, but the quality of the resulting morphs is much better.

Why do the poses sometimes work? The poses not only inject the morph deltas, they also set the morph dial values. The delta injection will fail on the clothes, since the number of vertices doesn't match, but setting the dial values WILL work - if those dials are present in the clothes.

I'll have to check out that magnet kit. Is it difficult to use for someone who has never worked with magnets in Poser before?

Not at all. If you don't tweak, it's just a question of following the instructions in the manual that comes with the kit. The Python scripts that come with the kit will take care of creating the morphs.

Sweet! I'm no good at complicated stuff. :) If it's easy to do, then I can probably--PROBABLY--do it. Get complicated on me, and I'll tear my hair out. :)
