Yep.ย Your bump value is too high.ย Reduce it to about 1/10th of its current value and try again.

hi thanks for the quick response. i tried changing the setting down but it was the same.
i have got the map strength at 100% and the amount on -0.00 and 1.16 both look the same!?

its suposed to be a pit, like a scar from chcken pox or acne lol
i have tried all of your suggestions thanks, still same problem.
i reckon im gonna start from scratch. has anyone got a link to a tutorial on bump maps!
Have you tried plugging it into the displacement map node instead?

i didnt relise you could type in your value rather than using the wheel(which increses and decreases in 0.010 each notch). Once i figured that out i could change the amount to less than 0.010 and it looks cool at around 0.006.
Thanks again guys your were very helpful and speedy replies!
would anybody mind reviewing my render and letting me know what they think. i need some constructive criticism so dont hold back haha
Bump and displacement are at 0 with black, not gray. The idea that gray is neutral keeps getting repeated (just saw it today) and that is incorrect.
The problem you had was that with a modest amount of bump essentially everywhere (gray) the creased surfaces crossed over each other.
If you're using a bump where 50% gray is supposed to mean no bump, (as in many other apps) then you must use a math node to subtract .5 from it first.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
