Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 07 11:07 am)
I have both - Mimic would be the better of the two for the most realistic real recorded speech but PoserSpeak is great for the quick text to speech mock ups. Mimic employs the MS speech recognition engine (I think) to generate the phoemes patterns while PoserSpeak uses the mouth shapes provided with the character.
The important thing is not to stop questioning.

from what I understand Poserspeak is purely keyed off of typed text and creates an electronic voice track from that, and does not actually key off of a natural recorded voice track wwheras Mimic actually anylizes a natural voice track and creates the keys off of that. the text track is only there for added accuracy. I'm not aware if poserspeak actually offers you a timeline to fine tune your lipSync. Mimic does have an advanced timeline to do so.
Also Mimic gives you access to the facial morphs, so you can not only tweak the lip action, you can add blinks, facial twitches, etc to the sync you've created. Also, with Mimic 3, you get the option of employing config files; if you have a new (or old...even very old) character, you can create a config file that maps that figures facial morphs into Mimic, letting you add non-DAZ characters to the mixture. PoserSpeak is pretty much a version 1.00 module; Mimic has been around for years, and has had many of the inevitable bugs either squashed or worked around....
Yeah, these are two completely different animals. Mimic allows you to lip synch to a recorded track. PoserSpeak generates electronic speech from typed text. Mimic still works great but is getting dated and won't work with the newer characters, including (surprisingly) Daz's own Victoria 4. A member here has kindly creaed phenomes for Vicky 4 to use with Mimic but doesn't have full functionality. I'm hoping Daz will update Mimic sometime but I think that may be wishful thinking.
Hey, I appreciate that info wdupre! I just found a post you made previously with a link to your tutorial on the Daz site.
Since Daz put the phonemes in 4.1 I'm curious why they didn't go ahead and complete the task with expressions and a DMC file? I'll definitely post mine in the freebie section when I get the DMC finished.

Just and FYI, Mimic only works correctly if you use a mono channel wave file. No 5:1, no stereo, none of the bastard formats, just a plain, single channel .wav file. Try and of the others, and you either get crashing errors, or simply no function at all. And plan to have a decent audio editing program handy (I use Audition). You will have far more control over things doing it the professional way, adding the actual voice track onto the video in post. That way, if you have more than one sound source in the shot, you can 'slide' the audio track towards one side or the other of the stereo envelope, making the voice 'sound' as if it is coming from the character, not some omnipotent void your brain tells you is somewhere directly before you (not having your speaking character centered all the time, and phase shifting the speech track to seem to be coming from screen left or right where the character is, is one of those tricks that adds realism; or more accurately, -doesn't- intrude with the 'This is not how this should sound I just got thrown out of any interest I had in the clip' effect),

Hi all,
Without considering theire prices, from the video examples provided by both, it seems that the lip movement of Mimic is more realistic than that of PoserSpeak.
Any comments?
Thanks in advance.
