Welcome to the Freestuff Forum. The Freestuff Forum is intended for all freestuff related postings within our community. This is a highlight area where our membership is invited to review, announce and give feedback in greater detail on various freestuff items offered. Members can also post wishes of freestuff items they would like to see.
Notice: Links to offsite 'For Sale' items will be removed

That's one short clip you get for going through all the trouble of registering: five seconds of QuickTime movie. Little joy here.

Brian, can you tell us what exactly you are giving to the member-base here? I registered and downloaded one 5 sec. looping clip, that I can't use anywhere {according to the terms} unless I want to pay a license fee....
This forum is for 'freestuff' providers to share their 'free' items with the community..its not an advertisement venue for items that are for sale. If you would like to advertise anything for sale, I would suggest posting to the Product Showcase Forum

Well, I am a bit suprised. Many free items are offered with the restriction on commercial usage, and this has NEVER been a problem in the freestuff forum.
And the clip may be short, but if you were an ad agency you would know that that is the standard length of stock animation clips. Also, a clip like that normally sells for $179, and just because you have no use for the clip, doesn't mean that it doesn't belong in freestuff.
I see blurry out of focus photographs in freestuff that I have to register to get, and I have no use for them either, but I do not suggest that these should be moved to the product showcase forum.

The problem I see with this Helgard is that the clip cannot be used at all..it is just a sample clip to be sampled/viewed on ones own computer. {If I am reading the terms right} If you want to use {even download} any of the clips other than the free one on that site, you must pay a licensing fee and then pay for the clips.
The freestuff area is for items members can actually use..commercially or non commercially..and as long as they are on a site where the registration is free, we allow that as well.
This forum is for advertising 'free' items offered to the community, not for advertising items for sale. And that includes offering a free item that members cant actually use in order to draw customers to their products.
That is what the Product Showcase Forum and Gallery is for. We're not saying they can't advertise..just that we want the advertisements in the proper forum

Havent heard anything yet Syph, bu will let ya know when i do ;)
@Nance There are several sample clips to choose from, but they are all watermarked..once you choose a clip to download {after you register} that is the one you get to keep and watch...here is what the terms page says..I could be getting it all wrong, but this is what I gathered from the text.
*How you may use the content on this website:
*Content, other than watermarked content, may only be used commercially once you have entered accepted our licence agreement and paid the relevant fee. Watermarked images/content may only be used for you internal "comps" and layouts. Anistock does not grant you any licence to use the content in any final materials distributed either internally or externally by yourself or your company, including any electronic or on-line system. Except for this limited, internal testing and sample use, Anistock grants you no other rights, and you may not distribute, sub license or make available for use or distribution any watermarked images/content

*Well, my understanding from reading this is:
Content that is not watermarked may be used commercially once you have accepted the licence agreement. By downloading the product you do that.
If you then decide to pay the licencing fee, you may use it commercially, and if you do not pay the licencing fee it is free for private use.
This is totally in keeping with many of the other free items in this forum, so I do really not see what the issue is here.
Many people release one free texture, for non-commercial private use, and require you to sign up to get it, and use that texture to advertise a larger texture package. What exactly is being done differently here that no less than three forum moderators have decided to join in the discussion?
Because this product is something different to the normal Poser freebie, and aimed at ad agencies, suddenly different rules must apply because you see no use for the item?

Most free items do not state that you can only view it on your computer Helgard, that is what we are talking about..its not useable for anyone...most items you are allowed to actually use..in renders, on blogs, for backgrounds, etc...and it doesnt matter if its used commercially or not...thats totally up to the provider giving the freestuff away
Tell ya what..go register, download a clip of your choice, and then what will you do with that free 'demo' clip..you can't put it on a website, a forum, a blog, a cd, etc. etc...you, and only you get to sit and look at it.
***Anistock does not grant you any licence to use the content in any final materials distributed either internally or externally by yourself or your company, including any electronic or on-line system
What that means, is that they are giving you a glimpse of what they offer for sale....and by Brians own words...its basically a demo like Irene stated.
"*** To give any user a flavor of the content we produce"
Again, we are not saying they cannot advertise anything, this is just the wrong forum for it.
Im hoping Brian will pop back in here and give some info on this..and if this clip is free for our users to actually use in some way besides just looking at it on their home PC, then I will let the thread stay..if not I will be moving it elsewhere.

Helgard , it's not the commercial use restrictions but the non commercial usage restrictions that are very limiting for a free item.

So, in plain no "legal eagle" English it says you can download it and have a look at it and that's all!
The blurry photo's you mentioned can at least be used as part of something.

If you go look at the free download page, you'll see that all the samples shown are watermarked. However, apparently once you pick one to download, the video clip itself is not visibly watermarked. I suppose you could interprut that to mean that only files "still" watermarked after downloading are restricted as noted whether you paid for it or not, but that wouldn't make much sense.

Hi,To give any user a flavor of the content we produce, feel free to download a free sample clip from www.anistock.com . We are on a steep learning curve so any feedback in exchange for the sample clip would be most welcome.
Hopefully you can make use of it, either way enjoy.
