Poser Python Scripting F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 02 3:16 pm)

We now have a ProPack Section in the Poser FreeStuff.
Check out the new Poser Python Wish List thread. If you have an idea for a script, jot it down and maybe someone can write it. If you're looking to write a script, check out this thread for useful suggestions.

Also, check out the official Python site for interpreters, sample code, applications, cool links and debuggers. This is THE central site for Python.

You can now attach text files to your posts to pass around scripts. Just attach the script as a txt file like you would a jpg or gif. Since the forum will use a random name for the file in the link, you should give instructions on what the file name should be and where to install it. Its a good idea to usually put that info right in the script file as well.

Subject: Poser pz2 Files

Hello,

I'm looking for a simple Python script that will run a pz2 file from within Poser (Poser4 and up). I've tried a couple of examples with no luck. Any help appreciated.

Thanks...

The command you need is LoadLibraryPose()
The pose file path name can either be absolute, e.g. "C:Program FilesCurious LabsPoserRuntimeLibraryPosethisPose.pz2" (use double backslashes!) or relative from the installed Poser folder: ":Runtime:Libraries:Pose:thisPose.pz2"

Unless you mean running a Python script from a pose file. This is not possible in Pro Pack, and I'm not sure whether it works in Poser 5. Poser 6 and higher can run a Python script from a pose file, don't know the name of the .pz2 entry off the top of my head. You can find it either in this forum or in the Poser Technical forum.

Hope this helps.

Okay, this is a start.  I'm kind of a DA when it comes to Python scripting. Could you give me an example?

Thanks...

There's an example script in the Poser Python manual, located in the root of your Poser installation.
And if you want to learn more about Python, visit www.python.org, THE Python resource.

Python can't be activated via a pose in Poser 5.  That functionality was added for P6.  Poser 5 can activate a script via a .cr2, however.

Cage can be an opinionated jerk who posts without thinking.  He apologizes for this.  He's honestly not trying to be a turkeyhead.

Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below.  His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.

Thanks All,
Found what I needed in the Poser documentation.
