Attached Link: http://www.geo-metricks.com/

Those of you who read my post about a website offering 30 realtime aircraft models for $9,500, might be interested in seeing it done the right way. Click the link, then Click on the "24 Planes - $49.95" box. Low poly but well textured for realtime use, $49.95 and downloadable. Well done Geo-Metricks. I call that, "The Right Stuff". -SMT

I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!

I can't get excited about either the $9,500 models OR the $49.95 models. This is a "SIM" stuff. NOTHING yet beats the De Espona models. They have details and resolution that are incredible. But those Imagination Works folks also make some good stuff... Wait until I find the $3000 submarine and ship movie-models website- still looking for it. The weather was IDEAL for the "Pearl Harbor" premiere. Maybe when people see THAT, it will give them some ideas about what can really be done with 3D classic aircraft...

www.meshfactory.com is a great place, I joined a few months ago and have access to lots of excellant models. Jody

Yeah, the De Espona stuff is amazing in detail, though expensive, but those collections from geo-metricks look great. I'm real glad you posted that Smallspace, because their "24 Urban Cars" collection looks liek exactly the type of thing I could get alot of use out of. I've never heard of Mesh Factory--- thanks Jody, I'll have to look into it. .................... As an aside, have any of you ever considered that their just simply aren't enough hours in the day for all of this?.......

Fox-Mulder ( ) posted Wed, 23 May 2001 at 4:48 AM

Yes, been meaning to join Mesh factory too. Like Mike says, never enough time for all of it. I am worried that software like Vue is going to get so great, and that mass quantities of excellent models will become so widely available that it will drive people crazy. I've already reached that point and still can't stop buying new models I like. It's a terrible addiction! I NEED HELP!...

Meshfactory is good value because you get all for the membership fee

Fox, I'm with you on this! There are so many good model collections out there -- and also great individual models. A whole bunch of great models are even free. But there isn't enough time in the days to collect 'em all and use 'em all. I've collected more than I even know I've got, yet I still grab new ones when they appeal to me. Now I just need about 40 years to make images with 'em! LOL! Thanks for the new links to fuel the addiction! :)

I've just bought a DVD-RAM drive that stores 9.2 Gigs, re-writable up to 100,000 times (more than enough, I suspect). They are actually not that expensive- $500. I know that may be alot for some people but I do a serious amount of imaging work, all the free Poser and other great Free stuff creates an enormous storage problem, especially if you unzip it and make a few renders... The biggest problem for me, which has taken over a year, was developing a system for logically sorting out the various items in a way you can still find and use them... I can tell you this- the WORLD AWAITS the person or company that can produce a really good software program to do this effectively. 3D Explorer and Yarp's Poser Explorer are a big help, but I think somebody could really make this a MAJOR APPLICATION in itself- a 3D Model Management program...

MikeJ ( ) posted Thu, 24 May 2001 at 5:28 AM

9.2 gigs?! How long does it take to browse through all that?! Oh man, I can't even imagine! You could back up several entire program directories with that much space! Wow..... And i agree that would be a great idea for a program all on it's own. Don't know how it could be implememnted, but it would be very cool. As it is, I just make folders and subfolders all with similar objects in each, and use 3D Exploration to browse them. Of course, that doesn't work with the .vob files......

Fox-Mulder ( ) posted Thu, 24 May 2001 at 3:31 PM

That's why I hope Yarp will impliment a VOB file viewer in an upcoming "Poser Vue Explorer". He said he would seriously look at supporting Vue files. It would make a really WONDERFUL project management software for Poser-Vue users... Actually 9.2 Gigs ain't that big, at least to me anyway. I have a process that requires storing lots of data to achieve the end results, which are often huge files post-worked in Photoshop. I also bought 10 9.2 cartridges so I can have an array of software projects "hot-swappable", but with the security back-up features of Optical storage. The new DVD-RAM's are extremely fast, unlike the older CD-RW's that use the "tiny" 650 MB format... Imagine too, if a virus or diskcrash happens in your C Drive? With DVD-RAM you can have all the key files totally backed up and ready to restore again. It's a great safety-net feature in today's world...

MikeJ ( ) posted Thu, 24 May 2001 at 3:48 PM

I agree and I've actually been thinking about it all day. I've been using the Maxell 700 MB CD/RW discs for backups, but as you know, that's not enough. So, I have, like 200-300 CD ROM discs sitting around... zi can appreciate the speed of a DVD player, since my Compaq has one already, and I will most definitely be looking into a DVD RW!

Varian ( ) posted Thu, 24 May 2001 at 4:06 PM

9.2 gigs?! ... You could back up several entire program directories with that much space! -- Well, I thought my addiction was bad, but 9.2 gigs? I could back up my ENTIRE SYSTEM with that and have plenty of room to spare for a second or third! LOL!

Fox-Mulder ( ) posted Thu, 24 May 2001 at 4:17 PM

DON'T get a DVD-RW, Get a DVD-RAM. It is a VERY CONFUSING situation right now as there are all kinds of competiting DVD formats from Pioneer, Sony, etc. PLUS, people confuse all this with DVD Video players and recorders. They are all different formats and often incompatible... DVD-RAM is a format supported by Panasonic, Hitachi and Toshiba and it is becoming the "CD-ROM - CD-RW (read ISO-9660, Rockwell, etc) format of choice among people and companies who back-up large amounts of data. DVD-RAM will read Video, RW and other formats INCLUDING CD-ROM, but only WRITES to DVD-RAM format. I've researched this whole issue and DVD-RAM is the best choice, I think. And currently, the fastest and best reviewed drive is the Hitachi GF-2050...

MikeJ ( ) posted Thu, 24 May 2001 at 4:39 PM

OK F-M, thanks. I would of course check it all out first, but it's nice to know ahead of time. In any event, I'll more likely be upgrading to dual CPU's and Win 2K before I can afford to go with a DVD-RAM... I just hope what I get isn't obsolete by the time I get it all home!
