Subject: Re: Daz3d to Poser export

DOM1 ( ) posted Fri, 03 August 2007 at 7:33 PM · edited Sat, 10 August 2024 at 2:06 AM

I'm trying to export an object from Daz3d 1.7 to Poser 6. Most of the time it works, however when it comes to objects such as the millennium horse, the fine hair material never exports properly to Poser. I get the black block instead of the fine hair material. I have also installed the poser material scripts. Can someone tell me the correct settings when exporting.
Any help greatly appreciated.

I don't understand why you're not loading the millennium horse into Poser.... Are you trying to pose in DS and then render in Poser?

The horse came as a Daz file so it pre installs straight to Daz when you open it.

I'm trying to figure out what you're doing, so I may seem to be asking stupid questions.

Content from DAZ3D was initially designed solely for Poser, then when they created Studio, for both applications. I can't think of a time I've seen anything that was only for DAZ studio-- although they do sometimes split the installation files into two separate files-- the one with the DS suffix is for Daz Studio, PS is for Poser. If you're using both applications, you should download both files because sometimes there are differences based, primarily on how the applications handle textures.

I probably just downloaded the Daz file at the time as I didn't have Poser then. Unfortunately if there were Poser files included they have now expired at the Daz website. The purchased downloads are only available for certain amount of time. Nevertheless surely the export to poser option within Daz should export the correct materials along with the object. I just need to get the correct settings.

Usually the ds files just contain daz-studio mats, since the Poser version of the model itself will work in both poser and D|S.
run the installer again, but this time direct it to one of your Poser runtimes and see if it works in Poser.

I dunno if you guys had a chance to see DOM's gallery... he makes some really stunning landscapes, much like the paintings of the old masters.

It sounds as if the transparency maps (I'm guessing by "fine hair material" you're having problems with the mane or tail?)  are not being ported over, or the node is disconnected. Attached is screenshot of mane material in Poser.
