Subject: Victoria 4.1

WildHunt1 ( ) posted Sat, 04 August 2007 at 1:38 AM · edited Sun, 05 January 2025 at 1:05 PM

I just (stupidly) upgraded from Victoria 4 to Victoria 4.1, and now none of my character Head INJ files work! The bodies work, but not the heads! I've downloaded and installed everything three times, and the heads just won't work! What am I missing?

pjz99 ( ) posted Sat, 04 August 2007 at 3:34 AM

Installing V4.1 doesn't remove anything for V4.0, so if you had better luck with V4.0 then use the old version.

When you say "doesn't work", how exactly?  Any message?  What symptoms?

WildHunt1 ( ) posted Sat, 04 August 2007 at 10:10 AM

The only symptom is the head INJ files for my characters don't work. The bodies do, but the head files don't. It's just...weird. And sometimes the head INJ files make the head three times as large but don't change it otherwise. I could see if it changed the face but also made it bigger--that I could just undo the head size, but it just changes the head size but nothing more. Maybe it's just the Mac V4.1 this is weird on. Yes, I have a Mac.

Philywebrider ( ) posted Sat, 04 August 2007 at 10:31 AM

I have a PC and I have the similar problem with the injection morphs head and body not functioning, except that i haven't had the head enlarge. Things seemed to work before I upgraded to Poser7 SR2.1 and the latest updates. I don't know enough to know if the updates to know if they are the problem. I was wondering if there is a way to uninstall the updates.

I did load V4.1 and the V4.1 morphs before trying to use the injection morphs for the V4.1 characters.

WildHunt1 ( ) posted Sat, 04 August 2007 at 10:51 AM

V4.1 is a piece of crap, and I want Daz to replace my regular V4 for not warning people that there might be issues and they should back up their regular V4 before installing the new!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unicornst ( ) posted Sat, 04 August 2007 at 12:18 PM

**Have you asked this question over at Daz? Have you contacted Daz customer support?

Seems since they made the model, that would be the perfect place to ask about any issues with her. I'd help if I could, but I use her in Studio on a PC and she does beautifully for me. I like her better than V4.

On the other hand, I can't get her to load in P5. Just a lot of "newer version" messages over and over and over and over............ (yeah, I know...she's made for P6 or P7. But V4 loads in P5 with only one "newer version" message, so why not V4.1? AFter all, V4 was only made for P6 or P7, too.)**

Philywebrider ( ) posted Sat, 04 August 2007 at 12:24 PM

I intend to call Daz Monday, but I really think it is the Poser 7 SR2.1.

Unicornst ( ) posted Sat, 04 August 2007 at 12:46 PM

**It could be. I know I had one tester have problems with Poser finding a texture. She had installed the SR2.1. While three other testers who had not installed that had no problems at all with the product. And the product passed testing with out any problems.

Seems that "fix" caused more problems than it fixed.**

Whatthe ( ) posted Sat, 04 August 2007 at 1:16 PM

I had that same problem, I just reinstalled the 4.1 upgrades and it worked.

Philywebrider ( ) posted Sat, 04 August 2007 at 3:25 PM

What V4.1 upgrades? I had checked before, but when you mentioned the 4.1 upgrade, I went back to DAZ to check again, still no 4.1 ' fix '. Could you tell me where to look?

Whatthe ( ) posted Sat, 04 August 2007 at 3:47 PM

Sorry, I didn't mean "upgrade" or "fix."  I meant reinstalled 4.1

There are multiple versions of V4.1, the version currently out for download has a different byte count from what I'd first downloaded.  They slipped in a fix for the buggy data in the IrisConvexity morph on the eyes and didn't make any announcement or change version information.

I told you, Victoria 4.0 is not moved or overwritten by installing V4.1 (see image).

Unicornst, you can use V4 (or V4.1) in Poser 5, but I think you need to edit the files, to change the release number manually.   I haven't tried this myself.

Have a look at

Unicornst ( ) posted Sat, 04 August 2007 at 10:29 PM

Thanks, Morgano. I'm going to try reinstalling her like Whatthe did and see if that "cures" the hangup. First installent of her, I placed her in an "outside" Runtime and copied her deltas over to the correct place in Poser. This time, I'll install her directly into Poser and see if that works for me. If not, then I'll try other things. grin

Unicornst ( ) posted Sat, 04 August 2007 at 11:47 PM

Installing her directly to Poser5 helped. I still had to go through many, many "newer version" messages, but it didn't hang up this time and loaded her after all.

Morgano ( ) posted Sun, 05 August 2007 at 12:00 AM

Very glad it worked.   The daft thing is that I don't think that there is much in V4 (or V4.1) that should prevent it (her) from working in P5, so I can't understand why the installation process presents so many obstacles.

Unicornst ( ) posted Sun, 05 August 2007 at 12:12 AM

I don't get it either. She doesn't seem that different from the original version (which loads after just one message), but I lost count of the messages with V4.1. lol

pjz99 ( ) posted Sun, 05 August 2007 at 1:54 AM

You can try re-saving her into the figures library once she's loaded, I think that will get rid of the "incorrect version"m essages.

I'll give that a try, pjz. Thanks.

pjz99- I downloaded V4.1 aqgain and installed it. There was no change in my problems, I still can't morph the V4.1 figure. I'm going to contact DAZ Monday.

BTW my V4.1 icon has a green background, does this mean anything?

On installing V4.1 it says it recommended that it be inialized? any body know what this means?

The V4.1install also installed an updater on the desk top, whats that all about?

Is there any way I can remove the Poser 7 updates, without having to reinstall Poser 7?

SamTherapy ( ) posted Sun, 05 August 2007 at 1:56 PM

My V4.1 also has a green background.  I have no idea what initializing it does but I did it anyhow.
The updater is a link to DAZ, so they can squirt online updates directly to the model, I believe.

BTW, you did actually buy the morphs?  It's the pack illustrated here:

Attached Link: V4.1 FAQ

**There's a thread over at Daz that answers some of your questions and gives more info about V4.1. It might be useful to you.**

Thanks Unicornst.

Unicornst ( ) posted Sun, 05 August 2007 at 6:47 PM

Not a problem. I only hope it helps you out.

LadyElf ( ) posted Mon, 06 August 2007 at 1:04 AM

Actually, I use V4 and V4.1 in ProPak also. :)  She works fine for me :)

Unicornst ( ) posted Mon, 06 August 2007 at 2:14 AM

Do you get a ton of "newer version" messages?

LadyElf ( ) posted Mon, 06 August 2007 at 2:17 AM

I get more with V4.1 then I do V4, but then I seldom use V4.1 :)

I just click through them, cuz I've been too lazy to go and change the version numbers on the files yet LOL!!

Unicornst ( ) posted Mon, 06 August 2007 at 2:22 AM

**Okay. At least I know I'm not the only one who gets those. lol I don't mind clicking through them. At least she does load now.

Now if only I could get a morphed look I really like. I've been playing around with a new one for 4 days now and just can't seem to get her the way I want. I even redid all the makeups for her. Oh well, back to the drawing board. grin**

pjz99 ( ) posted Mon, 06 August 2007 at 2:34 AM

The eyes in particular are something a lot of people complain about.  It is a bit tough to get them away from the default and still looking fairly good.  I think this is much easier though in 4.1, since there are a lot of new morphs around the eye.

Hip bone is still rather hard to smooth down though, and since it is right near the edge of hip/abdomen it's tough to do much about it with the morph tool.

**Truth be told...it's those eyebrows that are making it so hard on me. I don't like transmaps because they just don't look natural. No matter what you do, they look painted on.

But the body did fine. I'm not showing the head because I've changed it since I rendered this one.**

AscendedSpirit ( ) posted Wed, 15 August 2007 at 2:00 PM

So what is with those installers on desk top? What do they do?

Philywebrider ( ) posted Wed, 15 August 2007 at 3:20 PM · edited Wed, 15 August 2007 at 3:32 PM

I understand Daz uses them to access your V4.1 files and automaticly update them

You can also use them to manualy check for updates.

I hope this isn't a trend...I buy a lot of Poser stuff and I'd have my desk top filled with update icons, and my computer running constantly updating things.

Does anybody think this automatic updating is a good idea? I don't like the idea of acess to my computer. It may cause problems with my firewalls, etc.

Quote - Does anybody think this automatic updating is a good idea? I don't like the idea of acess to my computer. It may cause problems with my firewalls, etc.

It's not automatic updating of the kind your describing.

The updaters only run when you run an installer (for a morph pack or service release) or if you run them yourself (won't change anything unless you've installed something with new or changed files).
There are no network connections involved, no checking for updates etc.
All they do is rebuild the files that are included by readScript lines in the CR2.

AscendedSpirit ( ) posted Wed, 15 August 2007 at 3:45 PM

OK but I still don't like it. Having that on my desk top and have someone access my pc

You can remove the shortcuts from the desktop.
Any installers that need to run them will find the batch files they point to in your Runtime.

Philywebrider ( ) posted Wed, 15 August 2007 at 6:50 PM

Removing the shortcuts from the desk top doesn't remove the updater.

RE: updater
*"All they do is rebuild the files that are included by readScript lines in the CR2."

*Is there a problem if I want to remove the updater, not just the desktop shortcut, but the updater program? Can I remove the program, and just update things as before?

"*Any installers that need to run them will find the batch files they point to in your Runtime."

*If the installers already find the batch files, what is the updater program files for? I'm getting confused.

No one can access you computer from or with the updater. You can move the shortcut any where you want. Here is what the updater is for, from the Victoria 4.1 - forum FAQ. "What exactly is the updater doing? The updater is going through the Runtimelibraries!DAZ folder, making a list of all the morphs for each body part and writing a pz2 file that will load them all. When you load the Victoria 4 CR2 file from the Figure library it is set to read each of those list files, causing it to load the morphs the updater saw. The updater changes nothing outside the Runtimelibraries!DAZ folder. Does this change the way I use the figure? No - the updater makes the list of morphs and morph channels and when you load the figure it reads them in, effectively building the full CR2 as it goes. You will end up with a figure with morphs already loaded, in the case of the base morphs or the Moprhs++ set if you have it, or ready to be injected in the usual way, in the case of add-ons like the Muscle Morphs. How often will I have to run the updater? Rarely - DAZ morph packs will run it for you, if needed, when you install them, so you'll need to run it by hand only if you get a set that uses the Exp system from another store or as a freebie that comes as a zip. When you do that, all you'll have to do is run the shortcut installed on your desktop or (if you've removed that) the batch file for your figure in Runtimelibraries!DAZ (the btach file just tells the updater which figure it's processing - it doesn't need to be rewritten or modified to work with different morph sets).
