Subject: [HELP]???Adding a glossy type effect to skin???

RetroDevil ( ) posted Mon, 20 August 2007 at 1:54 PM · edited Wed, 26 February 2025 at 8:54 AM

Hi, i am wondering how to add a glossy or slightly reflective surface to skin. I have seen a few pictures using this effect and think it will work well on some of my renders.

Someone has already suggested Blinn and i havent been able to find a tutorial on the uses of Blinn.

Hope you guys can help!

P.S here are a few links to images i have found with the effect in question!

tried sending a message to either of them asking how they did it ? BagginsBill is the material room guru - he'll probably be able to tell you :)

There is alot more than just blinn going on with that skin.
This should get you going in the right direction.

some of the highlights seen in those renders are on the texture or post processed and not done in poser itself.

If the effect is what I think it is, your wanting a combination of both blinn and standard specular (replace with phong if you are feeling adventurous)

Blinn should be setup to effect the sides alot, and the front a little, with the specular or phong dealing with frontal.

When I get home, if your still having problems I will show you what I mean. Being at work, I dont have poser.

I guess (though I could be wrong) that these images used a "kit" of some sort. Like one of the face_off's realism kits. eg. [ Unimesh Realism Kit](http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=34302&vendor=280495) The beauty of this kit is that it allows you to use any of your favourite unimesh textures, which fit V3, M3, A3 (with a tweak), Maddie (pictured), Mat, etc. The shader tree is very complex and beyond the skills of mere mortals like me to build myself.

this is true, but the OP was asking how the specular was done, not the skin.  The method that Face Off used to create the specular is very complex, but the specular effect can be created quite easily with just blinn and specular, but it requires more tweaking of your lighting to get it to look good, whereas Face Off's way handles lighting alot better.
