This will be an awesome sight to behold! It will definitely be neat to see! Two moons on August 27th, the Whole World is waiting for it. Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August. It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will cultivate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth. Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am. It will look like the earth has 2 Moons. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

I'm afraid Mars won't be quite that dramatic. This rumour tends to go around everytime Earth and Mars are at their closest, every other year. Mars is easy to find though, it will look just like a star but it is quite bright and very red in appearance. There are some drawings of Mars on my astro website. > The Hardencroft Observatory

Yeah, this starting in '03 (or was it '04) when Mars WAS at it's closest that it will be for many years. But it is a hoax -- nowhere near as bright or big as the earth's moon. Get up early in the morning tomorrow though and look West around 4AM. You will see what looks like two glowing red eyes. Mars and Aldebaran form the eyes of the bull in Taurus. From marsdaily.com: "...So ... you should forget about Mars on August 27th, right? Not so fast. While there won't be Two Moons on August 27th, there will be Two Eyes. At 3 o'clock in the morning on that date, Mars will rise in the eastern sky alongside the red giant star Aldebaran. The two red lights side-by-side will resemble two eerie, unblinking eyes. This is worth waking up for."

and exactly opposite of Jupiter (yesterday). Must say that there are so many rain clouds that you can see nothing.
BUT: the moon was quite big this year, and was higher in the sky. Which is good for people wanting to be followed by a moon shadow.

I just got had lol. I thought about it and no history record of Mars was ever so close so there be two moons. I guess it be in the history books if it was . Oh well can not win them all and I will look to see the two red eyes and hope to get a shot of them. May not be much to post

According to this article Mars  will be  (or was) 1/2 a degree magnified through a large telescope, while the moon is 1/2 a degree unmagnified. Still an excuse to dig out the telescope and have a gander.
