Subject: So what did you wish for?

viper ( ) posted Sat, 01 September 2007 at 9:39 AM · edited Tue, 24 December 2024 at 12:23 PM

As we all know or should know its survey time, I was wondering what everyone wished for as changes they would like to see,

Here are mine

  1. The ability to add people to a ignore list that would prevent them from commenting on works
  2. Now that we have a "friends" system in place my not a gallery option that limits my works to friends only
  3. The ability to remove stupid comments from your works as we all know their are some stupid people out here that type way before they put their brains in drive. I myself have one that posts to nearly ever work I post its getting old as this is not DA were crude comments are more fitting.

I don't think an igore list is a very good idea maybe private viewing only may be better.  I personally want to show my work to as many people as possible.

As for removing "stupid comments"  you can always ask to moderators they will remove comments for you.

You can always turn comments off to stop people commenting on you works.

I just browsed your first page in your gallery and I didn't see one strange comment, maybe I didn't go back far enough??? Or maybe they've already been deleted??? There's strange people everywhere, and unfortunately they can be jealous of your work, and be very immature with the commenting. I guess I would suggest not allowing the comments for awhile, and people can just view and put in their favorites, and when they put it in their favorites you usually get a comment pleasing to your ears...  IMHO... I saw that **nongo** observed that,

There's strange people everywhere

That is quite true, as I well know.

For my personal example, please read the comment under
one of my oldest uploads.

You might wonder why I didn't move to have his strange
comment deleted ...

(1) that would probably have caused  matters to escalate

(2) the writer already made a statement ... anyone reading
his words would easily conclude that he was the problem
and not me.

IOW, let him appear as the fool.  After all,  why should I expend
any energy to improve his image, reputation, and standing?

MGD, I can really understand your point

I don't think an ignore list or friends only list is a good idea. if you want only your friends to see them, email it to them.  This is a free to all gallery, which is rosity's strongest point, imho. I take everyones comments as a compliment that they would spare my work the minute or two to leave something.  If you don't want them to comment, ask them not to. This is easy for me to say as I havn't experienced someone pestering me, or anothers inanity yet I suppose. If my comments border on the ignorant or inane, I hope someone will not hesitate to ask me to move on.

Back to wish list...right now, the rating system means jack to me. I get more feedback from comments and total viewings.

I've only seen the rare sub 4 rating. Now, ratings don't mean a hell of a lot, but when I get say, 20 views, 10 comments, 10 ratings and a rating of 5.0...I'm a bit lost, a top notch rating when only half the people viewing thought it worth commenting?? What did the other 10 viewers think??

Someone else suggested this, the ability to anonymously rate an image. I would like to get low ratings as well as high ratings. Comments are great, good or bad. But people, including myself, hold back from saying anything constructive or negative, because there is a situation of you comment mine, I comment yours. Now, while I don't like the idea of anonymous comments, anonymous ratings would at least be a step.

The idea of an ignore list has been brought up before. As much as I understand the reason why one might want to use it...it could end up causing more problems and battles.

The problem with annonymous ratings is..not everyone will use the abiliity for the right reason..
Then, the staff would need a way to track it.. I can see now the 'turf wars" of folks dropping all sort of low ratings on a members work who they don't like.

My personal solution, I don't rate images and i don't allow mine to be rated.

If somebody leaves somments all the time on your work, and they seem odd or weird, let one of us know..If there is an issue, perhaps we can help. The other thing, you could always contact the person and in a nice way ask them to stop.

I had a person who left the same three comments every time..It was either comment A. comment B or comment C.  It seemed to me to be a "copy and paste" type of comment. I noticed they left the same comments on everyone elses images.

So,I dropped them a line and politely asked them to not comment on my work anymore..

Problem solved

theres now a gallery and forum set up where you can post your images specifically for getting crtical feedback

Hmmmm...yup...didn't think of that. In that light, anon. rating would nay be a good idea.

@ zollster....cheers mate, I forgot they put it up. Been a very hectic time for me lately.

It's difficult for me to say anything here as I'm rather new, and you have been a member for eight years, but my opinion is that the internet is for everyone, and a public site like this one should be open to all members. If you want a site that is restricted to the people you like, why not open a private site with membership?

I guess that a gallery with restricted entry would cause difficulties for renderosity as it would easliy lead to people not respecting the terms of service of the site, which would cause problems with paypal (marketplace). Besides: if someone comments, it's always their point of view they express. They are free to do so and are responsible for it. If people don't know when they go too far, it's their own time they wasted on that comment, not yours. And you can always inform the mods.

An idea: why not post your work with the comments and rating unchecked, and add a text yourself that friends are asked to write their opinion in a pm?

There are no Borg. All resistance is fertile.

Well on people leaving rude comments I have always found the mods here to be very helpful on deleting them for me.. and they do it in a matter of minutes from me asking them to. so i dont see a need for me to want a delete or ignor button.

the friends thing I love I think its an awesome idea :-)
I would like to see a section where the people on your friends list can talk with you but you have to be able to be on the friends list to join in the talk.. I think it would be great for some but the more I think about it.. that might cause the same problems you faced with the top 20 it really divided people so scratch that idea lol

for my wish list I would like to see a section we all have in our gallery where we can upload personal pictures to share with people on our friends list only. I dont care to use my gallery space to upload a family photo to share with a friend on here. I already did that once yesterday I took a picture of our home theater room just an everyday snap shot. not ment to be art at all. it was ment to answer a question only.
and to my surpise I got ratings of 5 on it lol same rating i get on one i put a lot of work into lol
now im thinking well crap my art dont earn a 5 people are kissing my A$$ on here lol
so a place for personal images would be great for only friends on your list to see ;-)

and out side of that I think the site is amazing on how it works and all and i think the mods do a great job keeping the clowns away as well :-)
