Subject: Poser 7 Crashes!

Propschick ( ) posted Fri, 03 August 2007 at 9:11 PM · edited Thu, 08 August 2024 at 12:28 AM

Every now and then when I get nice and involved in something, Poser 7 crashes on me. Sometimes i've done 15 renders and all the sudden poof! Other times I get an error message. Any ideas here? lol

Ever stop to think, and forget to start again?

You may be running out of memory.

Try doing this (immediately before the crash)  ... Save your work, exit Poser, then restart Poser.

Ah HA ... Now THAT's the 64$ question, isn't it.

Seriously, do you know how long that you had been working B4 the crash.
3 min?  10 min? 1/2 hour?

Were you doing any particular type of operation just before the crash?
How many renders had you done after starting Poser?
How may levels of "undo" do you have specified?
How many rendered images do you have in the queue?

It's different every time.

Does this same thing happen when you run any other programs?

Tech support sent me this response...

*Quote -Some people who have purchased and installed Poser 6 or 7 have encountered problems in which Poser will exit unexpectedly on launch, upon switching rooms, or in other circumstances. This is often caused by conflicts between Poser's OpenGL-based preview engine and the video drivers installed on the system. The cure is actually quite simple- first, ensure that your video card drivers have been updated to the latest version. Even if you updated as recently as a few months ago, it's worth checking back at the manufacturer's website; we've been working with several video card manufacturers to ensure that their drivers and our software work well together.

For details and links to manufacturers' driver download pages, see this Knowledge Base article-

Windows Vista users in particular should ensure that they have the latest drivers as this issue has been known to arise under Vista; this article (http://www.e-frontier.com/article/articleview/2127/1/858/) describes some other suggestions for Vista owners.

If updating the drivers doesn't solve the problem, you may have to reduce the hardware acceleration settings for the card as described in the article referenced above.

I hope this helped.

I have updated my drivers. P5 works great with Vista. P6 works fine until I go into the material room to change a texture of clothing that doesn't have a mat-pose. As soon as I try to change the texture or just change the color it locks up the entire computer and I have to turn it off and back on again. I make sure I save what I am working on before going to the material room so I don't have to completely start over. But this is nuts.

I tried lowering my hardware accelleration but it is dithered and states my driver does not allow for it to be changed.

I have heard great things about the materia room in P6 but honestly right now I am not seeing it.

Also in my preview window the only way I can see my figure and what I have applied is to use the sreed setting instead of open GL and then it doesn't save that setting I have to change it every time I open P6.

Any suggestions. I have SR1 and SR2. Do I have to uninstall P6 and start over?

thanks,
Shannon

Someone once said that Vista can be set to open and run a program with WinXP compatability mode. I uninstalled Vista from my main system but I think it was something like right click on the Poser.exe or the desk top icon? Can a Vista user clearify the proper way that was done please. It might help Poser 6 run.

My brain is just a toy box filled with weird things
