I'm not a huge fan of the square format, but here it works, from what I can make out of these small images. It enhances the desctruction somehow.

The local photo club gave me honorable mention, but suggested I should crop picture , above, like picture 2, below. What do you think.

If someone can cleanup the first 2 entries I made at the top. Thanks

Perosnally I prefer the 1st one cause well I'm not a fan of cropping images even it it's just to change the format. I think part of the art to photography is ones ability to work with the given format and compose something within it... but hey what do I know I'm merely the kid 😉

The "kid" speaks like I do...I like the original, next would be the Radlafx version.  Does that help?

When viewed in "large size" the details are there in the uncropped version and quite striking...to me, at least.

Technically the cropped version is the best as you have the foreground interest in the bottom right corner of the image, as opposed to in the middle, and it adds depth and leads the eye into the picture. That said, I'm not a fan of the square format so if it's any help I would probably go with the uncropped version.

If you want to use the cropped version, I'd be tempted to add a rectangular border.

I also see ths shot as a "photo journalism" image, showing an event or results of an event. In that regard, the bigger uncropped image seems to have more appeal..as a news item that is.

Newspapers usually use square (cropped) images. Sometimes the photo is extremely cropped.

I know they often  do...but to me it would be more effective as is.  One local paper prints more rectangular images for really interesting stuff..not a mainstream publication.  Anyway...
