Subject: Summer Haiku Challenge

Drekinn ( ) posted Mon, 04 June 2007 at 4:35 AM · edited Tue, 11 February 2025 at 7:22 AM

As the final Springtime ingredients are combined in the seasonal mixing bowl, the oven is fired up and ready to bake.
Yes, it's time for the haiku challenge to move into the heat of Summer; let's just hope it doesn't burn.

If you're new to the haiku challenge the idea is to fashion together a 5-7-5 syllable haiku using the last word of the previous haiku as the first word of the next.

Summer, hot and dry:
Shoves poor Springtime out the way;
Everyone must fry.

--

Oh, how I wish it was as warm as I suggest; since the haiku seasons are opposite for me I'm sitting here shivering in an ice-box of a room with chattering teeth and partially frozen fingers.
Still, one can dream.

Hearts so young and free:
Teenage love in sun-bright parks;
Smooch behind a tree.

Tree branches brittled
Sun basting radiant heat
Thirsting, are we all

Waves hello...Just for fun...as I've no clue when this may have ended...lol. But, just now happened upon this area...new to the writing forum...and, after reading the previous, had to write a segue... :P

In hopes that you're all escaping the summer heat, and drought, that plagues my area :)

all that is needed
is within any heart's grasp
a beautiful breeze?

Breeze, like tongues of fire,

Does not cool the restless heart.

Passions build with heat.

Heat like a furnace,
sucks oxegyn from the air.
We drown on dry land.

Land radiates heat,

Baking us all like cookies.

I think I'm oatmeal.

Can't tell I'm sick of this heat, can you? Sorry about oatmeal.

Oatmeal lanes, sun dried
bruise bare feet, headed for Nana's.
Lemonade and hugs!

Hugs of sweat tinged skin
Droplets cling, instead of us
Like liquids, we part

mamabobbijo ( ) posted Mon, 27 August 2007 at 1:33 PM

Welcome aboard! I knew you could do it!  Beautiful.

Part the waist high grass
Lay back, look skyward, search for
Shapes within the clouds

Clouds drift across sky.

Crickets chirp. Cicadas sing.

Above, the moon hides.

In tribute to the upcoming total eclipse of the moon.

Hides that twitch from sweat
On animals in the sun
Flys sit and nip skin.
