I hope your machine is in groups. You need to select by group in UVMapper and map them separately. To start, I would probably tile by group, then go from there.

I've done that and shows up in 500 little pieces that i can't tell what's what

Did you name the groups or are they all default#? You might need to go back into Rhino and name the groups so you can tell what they are.

That is some impressive model, sure hope you can get it Poserized! One question: it appears to have a boiler and whistle, but hydraulic cylinders. Steam excavators were always cable machines, of course. If that IS a boiler, it needs to be bigger, with a stack. A lot of work in that carriage, and it gives you the basis for a bulldozer, a tank, anything with treads -- great job! I just discovered this trick myself. Import your object into Poser first then select it. Now click on the grouping tool. Now select each sub objet and assign it a texture name you will recognize. Export it being sure to preserve part names in the option box. Now you can select by material in UVmapper and you'll know what your looking at. Man this has made it so much easier for me. Hope this helps

oh yeah if your using Rhino it makes a flat weird looking uvmap. So be sure to pick a new map(under edit in uvmapper), like planar or box. I usually pick one and do the whole thing first. Then tile this and then select each group and experiment with what works best on the indiviual parts.
