Faux DoF was created in Photoshop, nothing else retouched.
Next up is a scene put together with an HDR lightprobe I made myself. We'll walk through the setup & try to address technical issues involved in matching 3D & 2D elements together.
OK Guys n Gals, this is very interesting, but as this is all very new, I hope I can ask a very simple question or two..
Do I understand this correctly?, This technique is used to light a poser scene to accurately match a background image?
For example if I went to the beach and take a photo of the sea and sand, and then use that background image for posing V4 in her swimsuite, I would also, whilst at the beach take multiple exposures and use these photos to create the IBL?
Sorry for such basic questions.

Sort of, but not exactly. You'd have to stitch those multiple photos together if you took them with an ordinary camera. Then you'd have to transform them.
Or you could just use free images and tools and forget the photography. There are thousands of free 360 degree panoramic images out there.
I have provided free tools to use such images in your scene, both for background and for lighting.
See my free stuff at the link.
From there click on "Environment Sphere" and "GenIBL - IBL Generator".
Once you have these tools, you'll be making light sets in just a few clicks.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

No there are not official Photo mirror balls, professionals use fisheye lens to make photos of 180 degree and merge them together, minimal 4 pictures with 3 different expo.. so you have a high quality Sphere map + Light probe
