Hello all,

As this is my first post I would like to introduce myself. My name is Ramon and I am from Barcelona, in Spain. English is not my native language, so please forgive me if I make mistakes.

I am interested in 3D as a means to create worlds (at least, virtual worlds ;-) The first 3D program that I used was Pov-Ray, and then I bought Poser Artist. I discovered Renderosity and Daz3D, bought a Bryce copy when Daz acquired the program and later on I upgraded up to Bryce 6. I have had advantage from the sales from the different sites, and now I am trying to learn Bryce 6, Poser 6, Hexagon 2.2 and Carrara 6, as well as Daz Studio! Too many programs and too litte free time, because I am a 3d hobbyist.

Some time ago I began a big project in Bryce: I am trying to model the roman forum of Emporiae, of which only remain some ruins that have been excavated by archaeologist. However I advance very slowly, so I don't know when I will finish it... if I finish it at all...

I would like to use this project in order to learn Bryce (modelling and texturing). I have seen that the Bryce community in Renderosity is extremely helpful, so if you don’t mind I will be posting questions about this project in this forum...

Reading old post I have seen that it was customary for new forum members to post a render of a sphere over water. I am chemist, so I have made a little variation. Here you have an "atom over water" :-D.

Best regards!

Ramon

Well met Ramon and that project of yours sounds very interesting! I love roman architecture myself:) If any help needed please be free to ask... though I'm not the most experienced brycer:) -Antti-

well, the SOW (sphere over water) is sort of a Bryce cliche`, but everyone does one...sort of like the Poser girl in the temple...;)

If you can use POVRay, you're going to do fine with Bryce. You can model in Bryce (ask the Bryster..;), and texture, but Hexagon can make models in .obj (object) format that you can import.

Daz Studio and Bryce (at least 5.5 and up) have the ability to transfer back and forth with models, etc. There's a button for Daz Studio (and presumably one on the Daz Studio as well).
Carrara has some connection with Bryce, but I don't remember what it is..;) Haven't messed much with it, but after a while you'll feel a sense of 'logic' to 3d programs in general, and the command interface will be less mysterious.

Have fun, and welcome to our madhouse..;)

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

Thank you! :-) Well, before going to bed, here is the progress of the forum! First of all, I have used the plans and charts made with the archaeologists, and I have made a first scheme locating the temple and podium (at the centre), the porticos with the columns, etc (

Here the general scheme is seen from the top; the temple and posium show more details.

I have been working in the temple and the podium. I have a question here: when I try to selecy an object (for example a cilinder), the list of objects that appear is very long; for exemple, the list shows all the cylinders from all the columns. Is there a way to hide their names? The textures are not correct: Emporiae was a little town, and they did not have money enough for marble. In fact, the walls are columns are covered by stucco. Do you know where I could find stucco textures to use in Bryce? Next step is the portico around the temple. There is an image of a reconstruction of the protico and the temple here, although it is not very accurate accoring to the archaelological data... http://www.uoc.edu/humfil/ct/Hiper_educatius/Empuries/pla_ideal_forum.jpg

Best regards, and good night!

Welcome to forum, that's a very nice start to your forum of Emporiae, can't wait to see the finished product.  Here's a few links to some great texture sites, you should be able to find what your looking for on one of these.[

You can't hide the names but you can CHANGE the names to something more meaningful than 'cylinder 1' for example.

In the [A] in the object icon column you can re-name your object.

Also, you can assign like obects a FAMILY by using the colour change icon in the object icon column (beneath the [A]. These means that at a glance to can identify, select and perhaps group families of objects, for example: all your temple's uprights.

Hello again!

croowe, thank you for the links, these pages can be very useful.
TheBryster, it is a pity that the names cannot be erased. I will explore the use of families...
Gog, I will post new images when I have advanced a bit more...

Best regards.

Welcome to the nuthouse rubidum,

Do you know that you can post your pics in your own gallery if you want a wider audience. Go to the gallery tab above and fill in the blanks and make sure 'select an advisory and you tck the box to indicate that the work is yours.

Let us know if you need help. I am not a pro but anyone here will gladly help if you have problems.

Have you thought of collaborating with your project? I am doing one with some others for a historic dutch town, other people helping can make it much more fun and you learn soooo much from them.

Thank you, Boofy and orbital; yes I have many questions... I will ask them little by little :-)
I have seen the Bryce galleries, but given the quality of the renders that are posted, I think that I must improve my work before uploading it :-)
The idea of the collaboration with other people is very interesting...  Are there any projects  that are made in collaboration?

Best regards

Ramon

Rubidium

Your work shown here is already better than a lot of my stuff and I have never been ridiculed by these guys, we sometimes tease the life out of each other in fun but everyone will always give help to improve an image or model. A lot of people will admire the image in and of itself, however, If you say you want critical comments then be prepared to absorb whatever truths/fictions come your way I found it is a great way to improve. Remember that the only 'silly' question really is the one you dont ask!!!

I would strongly encourage you to upload your work it is really good. Feel free to browse mine and other peoples galleries to see our progress from early days to now. You will see what I mean by improving. People also dont mind you asking 'how did you do that?'

This is a link to the thread I mentioned about the dutch town.

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2695432

You (and anyone else) would be most welcome to have a look and join in, I advise you to read the whole lot so you get an idea of what style we are doing. I come in at about page 11 (with a little stable) I think. Dvlenk6 who is one of he others on the project is good with bryce so you should feel at home there.

You can always post another thread asking for any other collaborations to join or start one yourself if you like like .

See ya later.

Boofy,

Thank you for you comments. The thread about the dutch town is very interesting. I will read it carefully tomorrow, now it's 1:00 AM here and I need some sleep...
Tomorrow I will try to post an image of the temple in the galleries :-)

Best regards
