When you make any meshes for poser, it is customary to put the OBJ file in geometry folders, and to srt the correct paths in the cr2 (and related) files.
It is not necessary to do this in order for things to function, but some marketplaces have rules about what files should go where. Marketplace support people can give you info about that detail.

if you look in a cr2, you'll see a figure already references an obj file.. but you DO need to go through, and make sure the references to objs or textures are not relative to your system install, and will work for anyone.
You'll notice a LOT of Daz releases come with no textures applied at all, forcing the end user to apply the proper texture mat poses or materials.
This might seem like additional work, but it has a numbe rof benefits:
End users are FORCED to apply the proper material settings for thier application version.. in a lot of cases, they don't and then are hunting down fixes when the reason is they aren;t using their content properly.
You KNOW you don't have to fix all the texture references in your cr2, because there aren't any!

when you use poser to create a figure file, the object doesn't save inside the cr2 like with pp2 files. but as a seperate object in the same folder you save the cr2 in. if you started with an obj which was grouped outside of poser and is unsplit you don't want to use the obj file that poser creates becouse poser splits the base obj when it resaves it. instead change the file refrence to the original .obj. placing .obj files in the geometries folder makes sense for a number of reasons, primarily though becouse if the user moves the cr2 to a different library or change the figure folder name, they won't have to also move the .obj file or change the file reference in the cr2.
Well all I can say is don't expect me to save out the OBJ data of my freebies. Ain't gonna happen. If you want OBJ's you can export the data yerself. What'cha expect for free huh? I'm lucky to remember to change all absolute calls to the texture references as it is.

Since I'm SO in the habit, I usually do it now anyway.
And since he's scompleteing his first product, he needs to do it as well, though I'm surprised he didn't release a few free things first, to learn how to package things properly..
I don't expect it from freebies at ALL When someone donates thier time, and is gracious enough to offer something, I think it would be rude to ask anything more then them just providing it.

Yeah that's new here though. It wasn't required during my short period as a merchant either here or at 3DC. I have no plans of getting back into selling though. I'm averaging $40 a month off my freebies at ShareCG now. Beat's a sharp poke in the eye!
One of the main reasons we (PP) request external geometries for commercial sets is to protect you, the creator.
With un-parented props - if a third party does a texture expansion set for them then they have to have textured pp2 files (pz2 files only work on parented props I think - not sure about later versions of Poser). If your geometry is external then whomever buys the texture set has to have your original set to use them. However if the geometry is not external and in the actual pp2 file itself then the textured pp2 files will also have to contain the obj data which would mean no one would have to buy your set.
You don't run into that problem if you use Posers built in mt5, mt6, mc6 or other material files. I prefer them over mat pose files myself. I've had too many mat pose files not work properly for me anyway. First example that comes to mind are the mat pose files that came with AprilSH's Portia hair. I applied that commercial hair to V4 and neither the mat pose or fit pose files worked when I went to apply them.
When I first ran into the ext-geom requirement I was grumpy about it, because
embedded geom makes housekeeping so much easier. You don't need to
worry about leftover bits in hard-to-find folders.
But there is one genuine advantage to the separate OBJ, beyond the commercial
reasons. It eases Poser's burden considerably when using several figures
that have the same OBJ, and thus makes complicated scenes easier to handle
and easier to store.
As wdupre said, the easiest way to rip out the OBJ is just to load the figure
and resave it under a new name. Poser will then write the separate OBJ
in the same folder with the new CR2. After that, you just move the OBJ into
an appropriate folder under Geometries and change the two 'objFileGeom'
lines in the CR2 to match the new location.

Try this ...**Tool Collection for Poser** -shown in the link above, it contains ***Extract Embedded Geometry* ** which extracts the geometry embedded in the Poser files to an external obj-file.Nice and easy to use, saves hours of hassle - re-writes the .CR2 correctly.
Never had any trouble with it, I'd say just this tool from the collection was worth the purchase price in it's own right.

Hi Everyone,
I'm finishing my first product for Poser and I found a thread that says you should pull your obj data out of your props files and put it in the geometry directory. I was wondering, do you have to do the same thing for figure files?
