I will pass the prize onto my partner, talisman018, for answering that. Got her Carrara 5 and 6 to do some modeling and maybe morphing for Poser.....but, she, ummm, well, hates Carrara. Loves Amapi instead.

Oooooh!  I don't know the answer to this, but is this maybe the beginnings of a Dr. Geep Carrara course?

It was only maybe a little over two years ago when I first opened Poser, clicked around a bit and sadly closed the program. I wanted to make things with it, but didn't have a clue what the buttons were for or what to do with it after saving for months to buy it.  Then along came Dr. Geep and the Naysay guy and all the others and the secrets were revealed!

I sit here now with Carrara 6 Standard, the import plug-in and---I open it up, click around and close it back up again because even though I know this program does awesome things I have no idea where to begin.  Is it even thinkable that Dr. Geep once again will come to the rescue?  Is there hope???  I know, I know...there's the PDF manual thing in the program but when you don't know the first thing about it or where to begin it is not much help.

FYI -

Ok, well, NaySayGuy says he has not received an email from the winner so I will post the info here.

The winner, Latexluv, has requested that the prize ...
(a $10 Gift Certificate redeemable here at R'osity)
... be awarded to talisman018 and that has been done.

ok im gonna ask...What the hell is a working box???? and why the hell should i want one in Poser?

Getting old and still making "art" without soiling myself, now that's success.

operaguy ( ) posted Wed, 31 October 2007 at 10:03 PM

The working box in Carrara is excellent. Besides the ground you get two sides of the rest of a cube, in grid form. When you place objects in the box you see a "fake shadow" of the item against the back and side wall, much as you see a fake ground shadow in Poser. This is a helper in keeping things oriented and located. You can tell the scale and height of things.

You can easily change the size of the walls, like you can scale up or down the ground in Poser

I find that when you start flying around with the camera, having the working box walls as well as a ground really helps you stay oriented.

Thanks Opera ... ;=]

The Working Box* in Carrara(5) can be used to accurately position objects with each other and, also, accurately adjust the size/scale of an object or figure.

That would b great - although does it give you the prjected 'shadow' on each wall so you can easily guage position and size?

Hi jon,

No, sorry, it does not.
But by using the orthographic cameras, the same type of accurate positioning and sizing/scaling can easily be done.

Dr. Geep might be teaching a Carrara course?  Excellent.

I would like to see what NaySayGuy would do with Poser Pro..........especially if he got to use it in conjunction with Lightwave, 3DS Max, or C4D. :sneaky:

Can you import a Carrara object into Poser?

geep ( ) posted Sun, 25 November 2007 at 4:16 PM · edited Sun, 25 November 2007 at 4:18 PM

Hi SSAfam1,

Yes, if you export it from Carrara as an object  (.obj)  file ... why not. ... ;=]

Then just Import the Wavefront OBJect file into Poser.

And, that's all there is to it. 😄

Dr Geep I found a hairpiece that's only supposed to be used in Carrara. The extension is .car

Being that I wasn't the one who made it, and I don't own Carrara, also that it's exported as .car, I don't know how I could get it into Poser.

operaguy ( ) posted Sun, 25 November 2007 at 6:48 PM

is that by holly2000? if so, it is Carrara dynamic hair and will only work in Carrara.

Can you post a link?
