I'm not sure, since we are never in the cold here, but I wouls say keep it in the bag when not in use. If it is small enough, slip it inside your jacket to keep it warm. But I don't think cold is quite so debilitating to cameras unless it gets very extreme. Check out the link for more info.Kort Kramer - Kramer Kreations
I read that jedink will be,
moving to the southern part of the southern island of New Zealand
and is concerned,
about the cold
Some batteries don't like the cold. My Nikon manual warns about this; with
some devices, there are warnings against charging the battery when it is
very hot and also when very cold; I've had my cellphone battery freeze
(and not operate) when left overnight in the car -- weather in Northern NJ
can get down to 0 degrees F (or less) = about -15 degrees C.

I think I heard Martin mention, > Some batteries don't like the cold. I've always been told to refridgerate my unused batteries, as they last longer. But yes, very extreme temperatures are not batteries' friend. Hooray for Florida. Here they just need to be waterproof. ;']

This message thread was started when jedink told us that he will be,
moving to the southern part of the southern island of New Zealand
(This just in from the department of coincidences!!!)
Last night while hanging our in a local ... ummmm ... pub, one of the TV
monitors was showing pictures of some spectacular mountains, snow
capped razor thin ridge lines, .. . I thought to myself that the scenery
looked like something from Lord of the Rings. I was then amazed when
they showed a map of Southern New Zealand!!!
That place is beautiful! ... You won't have any problem building a snowman.
Cheers!

Heya ppl, in about 2 months I'm moving to the southern part of the southern island of New Zealand.
I remember a thread on cameras and heat. One idea I got from it was to keep your camera in an Esky (Think its called a "Cooler" in the northern hemisphere.) in the boot of your car to insulate against the heat of the day.
But what about the cold?? Where I'm moving to in NZ is guaranteed to snow in winter. Any special precautions I should know of??
