Welcome to the Poser Technical Forum.
Where computer nerds can Pull out their slide rules and not get laughed at. Pocket protectors are not required. ;-)
This is the place you come to ask questions and share new ideas about using the internal file structure of Poser to push the program past it's normal limits.
New users are encouraged to read the FAQ sections here and on the Poser forum before asking questions.
I think you're confusing file formats. A prop is nothing more than a mesh saved into Poser's library. Poser will then automatically change it to .pp2 file. A .cr2 file is the file that contains all of the properties of a Poser Figure. All of the bending, morphs, material info, etc. is located in them. Only Poser can create a .cr2 file through the process of converting a mesh into a poseable figure. ScottA

interested in making my own props. Can you suggest books or tutorials? All of the books I've seen, (and I work in a bookstore) are pretty lame and none discuss prop creation at all Thanks
