Subject: New to Vue saying hello

magnumopus ( ) posted Thu, 08 November 2007 at 2:45 PM · edited Mon, 02 December 2024 at 5:57 AM

I wanted to say a fast hello to everyone here.I had purchased Vue6I after some debate about Infinite and XStream.I may lateral to XStream in the future. After a few surgeries for my daughter, and the death of my ex this past August,I'm finally able to rejoin Rendo and actually participate. Much has changed in my life now being a full time single parent of a physical special needs child, but I'm enjoying every minute of it! She did her first render with Vue last night, and I am so proud.

I'm a Systems Engineer by trade that has done some CG work since the early 90's.Mainly CD covers, some texturing for fantasy gaming, and a lot of architectural viz these past few years.Hey, it helps pays the bills.  I'm an old 3D Max person, and I must say that Vue is very impressive in what it can do these days. I do art for fun these days, and I'm having a blast with Vue.The ecosystems and spectral modes are what caught my attention the most.I have to say that I am duly impressed.Vue is a bit different from my days with Max and FinalRender,so I appreciate any help and critiques on my pics. The people here have always been knowledgeable and helpful.

I especially wanted to say thanks to the Walters' for the replies to my e-mails and questions I had before I'd purchased Vue6I. Life kind of got in the way and I never properly thanked them for their input and time. "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." That saying seems to make more sense as I grow older. LOL

I'm hoping to get some of my archi models up for download in the near future, and I'm also working on materials for Vue and some custom textures for the Poser crowd.

Happy rendering!!

Welcome.  I am broken hearted to hear about your recent trials but hope you find some solace and comfort creating artwork for us to drool over.  I look forward to your first post.

hello. Very nice to meet you. I have daz studio, carrara 5 and bryce (which I dont' use), and I also have poser 7, vue and C4d which I do use. I love vue but it's frustrating at times. Sorry to hear about the tumltuous time you have been having. Hope things stabilize for you. I'm very happy to hear your daughter likes vue. maybe I should let my 3 year old have a little play with it one day (we might end up fighting over computer time). Love esther

Thank you all for the warm welcome (back)! I'm doing my best to get a feel for Vue's controls. It's a bit different from Max and FinalRender.I'm still in awe at the depth Vue has, especially with the functions nodes. So far, for me, the one frustrating part of Vue is the graininess of the renders when using volumetrics.I tend to like a moody, atmospheric and painterly feel to many of my pics, and I've been busy trying out the custom rendering parts of the render options editor. I still feel like a kid on Christmas morning when I open V6I! LOL  I am working off an old P4 1.8GHz PC here with 256M RAM, and a GeForce 128M vid-card, so I'm limited in what I can do for now. I have a Duo Core with 4G RAM and a decent GeForce back in Seattle that I miss very much.I also forgot to bring PhotoShop with me down to Texas, so I can't do any post work on my renders for now.

estherau: How do you like C4D? I've heard a lot about it,but I've never used it. I've heard good things about modeling with it. I kind of grew up on 3D Max, and I've stuck with that because I tend to be a creature of habit. I haven't dug into daz Studio as of yet. I own an old version of Bryce.,4.1 I think it is, but I seldom use that anymore myself.

Thanks to all who've looked at my gallery and commented. It's a great group of artists here.

It's good to be back!  Happy rendering!

Grainy atmospheres: are they spectral? If so, in the sky, fog & haze tab, move the quality slider towards the right.

estherau ( ) posted Fri, 09 November 2007 at 4:38 PM

i just tried a little sample of modelling as i mostly render and just bought c4d for some other aspects. it seems quite easy and good though - to model there seems to be more content for max on the net. love esther

bruno021: Yes, they're spectral.I'm pretty hooked on the spectral modes Vue has now.Especially the AO. I tend to use metaclouds for fog effects.I'll try nudging to the right. Thanks for the tip.I have so much to learn about this app still.

esther:I'm always looking for modeling tools. I tried to get my head around Maya when the free edition came out some time back, but Maya's learning curve was a little too steep for the time I had available back then. I haven't upgraded Max since R8. It's too expensive a tool to keep updating now that I don't do Archi-Viz any longer. I also had better responses from the E-on support team when I had a video card issue than I ever did with AutoDesk.

Magnumopus, I have just purchesed Cinema 4D and sidegraded my Vue 6 Infinite to Xstream.
I am finding Cinema 4D a very intuitive program. I would never give up Vue but together they rock!!:)

FrankT ( ) posted Fri, 09 November 2007 at 7:30 PM

Take a look at Hexagon for modelling over at Daz - I have it but I'm pretty crap at modelling so far :)

Or there is Blender but it's learning curve is more of a cliff :)

Chippw: Thanks for the welcome! Your tutorials have proven very helpful to me for learning Vue.I thank you and Peggy so much for past help! I am indeed enjoying Vue and the creation of my world, which I call "Midian". It comes from a story I'd started way back in high school and has lived on,now in CG form.

Traligill:A few of my friends had probs with Xstream and Max files.I'd asked a few of the people here about Xstream. I took a while to decide on "just" Infinite.I may lateral out at some time.I'd like to try C4D some time.I've seen amazing models done with it. Thanks for the input!

FrankT: I will check into those, for sure! I'm pretty comfortable with Max,so I'm hoping to get some models out to share soon with some modeling app.

I like architecture, especially anything gothic in nature.I'm also looking at Zbrush, and I may start some figures for Poser eventually. My friend, Neomea, here at Rendo is willing to show me the ropes in the areas of custom Poser textures and morphs.I always liked Sanctum Art and Sixus1 for creatures, and stonemason has always created cool stuff. I just discovered those Cliff Demons last night and bought a set. So much awesome stuff out there. I want to try those SeaVue mats I keep seeing in the great water pics.

bruno021 ( ) posted Sat, 10 November 2007 at 2:35 AM

@FrankT: you're not crap at Hex2, it's the other way around! I wasted good money on it, and bought Cinema4D earlier this year, my best move so far.

FrankT ( ) posted Sat, 10 November 2007 at 12:31 PM

@Bruno
I got it for $1.99 so I didn't do to badly :) Definately has a few quirks but I can't get C4D yet or my wife will divorce me - besides, if I get it then I'm gonna have to get Vray for C4D too and then it gets silly lol

@FrankT: I hear you.The toys aren't cheap; then one needs more add-ons and the wives take strong notice of  credit card spending summaries.LOL    I had Max,then "had to have" FinalRender. Now VRay is the top of the foodchain there for GI/Radiosity.   I simply cannot afford all that I like out there.Vue was affordable and will keep me out of trouble for a while.

Hello,
I am new to Vue. I own Vue 6 Infinite but have not really learned to use it yet. Am going to soon though. LOL
I have a PC and am thinking of purchasing a MAC. Most likely yes. Will my Vue 6 Infinite work on it and if not what can I do?
