Subject: Do it yourself High Speed Photography

For those of you that dressed up as "Mr Science" at the Halloween party...this may be of some interest to you;

http://www.pbs.org/kcet/wiredscience/story/68-high_speed_photos.html

It describes how to set up to use the flash from a $3 disposable film camera with a sound sensitive trigger mechanism to take high speed photos.  It's for those that don't want to risk  tinkering with their $500 flash to do the same.

I haven't tried it yet....but will experiment if time permits.  If anyone out there tries it...be sure to IM me and upload your results.

Have fun!

**$99 !!!!!!!

**If you are interested in this type of photography and want to build a sound trigger or IR trigger better to go to www.hiviz.com they sell the complete kit ready to assemble for $12 !

OK it doesn't look quite so finished off as it is components on breadboard  but I can personally vouch their kits work and that the guy selling them is very helpful if you get any queries.

Very cool Richard!!!
Yes I had been to the hiviz website some time ago...but didn't follow up on things.  I also didn't realize the additional trigger mech on the PBS website was $99!

Looks like the hiviz stuff would make a great winter project.

Thanks

Nice link Richard - i was looking for something like that just recently... seems i might also be able to do something this winter other than freeze my ass off going out to get snow shots... (please give us snow powers that be... cold isnt worth it without snow to mix things up!)

The link Richard posted has a kit you can make (no solder needed, and just the ability to follow simple instructions).  It is pretty cheap and looks great for setting things up - go have a look at the site for more details :)

Yep good project for the winter ;)

I'll have to blow the dust of mine .

It is a school so I would get it sorted quick before the xmas break if you are ordering from there, which incidently is cheaper than buying the component parts at Maplin's.
