Subject: Can anyone use some music or sound fx?

After months (well, a couple of years really) of snatching up all this cool stuff you guys make here on the forum, I want to give something back. :) I'm not a modeler, or much of a texture maker. I can however, make killer sound fx and music, having been a pro musician for the last 20 years and pretty accomplished at movie scores and game soundtracks. I'm going through all of my music files, and some of my old Posertrax files (Posertrax was something I came up with in '99 and tried to market, but I'm not a marketer LOL...) and getting ready to load up some of them to the Free Stuff area tonight. So that I can give you something useful, my questions are: what type of sounds or music are useful, if at all, to you when doing Poser animations? Do you use them in Poser, or a video edit app like Premiere, Vegas, or iMovie? Would you have a preference over .mp3 files with a downloadable converter, or the high-res 16-bit WAV's ready to import? Long pieces of music, or short? Also, what styles? Instruments? Vocal or instrumental? I feel this is an area in which I can make a truly quality contribution to the Renderosity community, but I don't want to waste my time or yours on sounds you don't want or can't use, if this even is something useful in the first place. I appreciate any feedback you guys and gals can give me! --silver

Hi ho, I need mood music like for a movie soundtrack. I guess MP3 would work best. Wav files are really what I want, but quality files are too huge. I use in Premiere, but use Mimic (uses wav) as well for lipsynch. Something uncopyrighted I assume is what you have. If possible, I'd like to talk about doing a soundtrack with me. I need a good sound guy. I was thinking for fun to do a music video, all in Poser, as well. Pack angrymobb@home.com

One thing that struck me was with the latest version of Adobe Premiere they bundled a lite version of Track Maker (forgive me if thats the wrong name). It was pretty nice in the fact that you could use it to make looped music scores based on how big a timeline you have or how many seconds you want it to run. Even gives you variations on mood. Only problem it the music was Very stock corporate video in nature. Personally loved what the program can do but I didn't like the canned sound especially when I'm trying to be cinematic. Me not being a musical composer all I can ever say to a composer is what feel I want to exude and the pace I'd like to have something that I could loop over and over, or start and finish. Perhaps have a beginning I could tack on, middle sections and an end. Parts of a soundtrack so the user could build a custom score to fit his or her needs. I'd like to hear powerful dynamic action music. Something heroic, uplifting. Dark action music for the antagonist. Warm and cold ambient sounds to fill the background. Chilling music as the story gets tense. A warm radiant theme for a romance. Overall I want it to sound cinematic, and have some emotion behind it. Hope these suggestions help.

So, the most practical things would be looping segments in mp3 format, right? I can certainly provide different moods as you suggested, Director. The "build your own" from pre-made loops and sounds is a good idea as well - I think how well it works would depend on the end software you're using for compositing the score. I'm still figuring out just how good Poser is for the final "soundline". And pack, would love to do a soundtrack with ya, just email me the details: dmaynard@carolina.rr.com

I say if you have 1 minute long non looped mood music, it would be better. loops get annoying after a short while.

Ok, at least for the music end of it, looks like I'll be posting a combination of loops and of final pieces with beginnings/middles/endings. All the feedback I've gotten from you two and and on the animation forum has been invaluable. Glad you liked the loops I posted last night!

Great idea. Thanks for the clips. A suggestion for the doc... Mention that the AIF file for Mac should be uncompressed! (Don't know about the corresponding Windows bit.) That one had me wondering for a while when I first tried putting sound into Poser to time the animation to the sound. Anyway: let us know when the site is up.
