Subject: The poser user interface

been a long time user of poser but lately I have been learning 3dsmax and the interface difference is unbelievable.  Ctrl+R in max saves SO much time and every object that is selected in max changes the camera angles around it, the roller on the mouse is a zoom and pan and the objects are so easy to select..

was wondering if there are any tricks to the interface in poser...?  can't find any way to set up hot-keys and whichever display type I have the select mouse click seems to go through the same process (of whatever is randomly in that area of the screen must be what i want to select)

I've always liked poser but lately whenever I transfer an object from max to poser its like going from air to water everything seems slower and more clumsy..

just wanted to get your views and any pointers or tricks to improve the interface, also does anyone know if pro will have a different interface?

thanks

In Poser 7 you can edit your hot-keys by editing the c:Program Filese frountierposer 7runtimeuiPoser.xrc (note every SR so far has updated this file so if you customize it you will need to redo it after installing any of the SRs currently out)

and (in Poser 7) you can select items by right clicking and the first flyout of the pop up menu is "select" where it lists everything under your cursor.

they have indicated that the poser pro user interface will be the same as the poser 7 interface (see attached link). I haven't called them yet to see if the same people are working on it.

Tyger_purr, no rotation or X & Z hot keys in that file :( only toggle from camera to camera which I've never found really useful.. but I guess I could set up cameras at different angles, just be a lot to reset if I move from center.. I know about the right click select too, but even selected (red outline) when I go to click and drag it.. what object is re-selected is anyone's guess lol.

**Miss Nancy, ** that's a shame, wouldn't take much to put everything in the camera controls into hot keys surly.. their point and click interface is really good for beginners but when people start to make complicated animations it just slows the process down.  hope they decide to add to the hot keys, they wouldn't even need to change the interface any, just add to it.

anyway, thank.

You can set up different hot keys by editing the Poser.xrc file.  This
is limited because there are only a few spare letters ... but anything
that's on a menu can be given a hotkey of your choice.

Also, you may find this script handy.  It lets you 'walk' the dolly camera
around the scene with the arrow keys.

once you have something selected you can hold down shift and it will not select a different item.

hold down the space bar and click and drag and it will pan the camera
hold down alt and click and drag and it will rotate the camera
