Subject: When to magnetize clothes to V4 and when not to bother?

Darboshanski ( ) posted Wed, 12 December 2007 at 11:47 AM · edited Sat, 28 December 2024 at 9:19 AM

I have found gobs of information about this in regards to using D/S but what about poser?
In the magnetize clothing pose folder which pose set to I use?  Are you to magnetize all clothing
to V4 or just some?

Thanks!!

With certian poses if the V4 is "poking" thru the clothing I would try the magnets.

I just use Wardrobe Wizard if I have issues with fitting.

What exactly is this "magnetize" thing about? How do you do it?

I have only just tried using the magnets for the first time today, here is what I did and the order I did it in.

  1. Load V4, add your textures for her body and head
  2. Add an item of clothing, conform it to V4 then apply the first magnet making sure the clothing is still selected. NOTE: Use the same magnet for all cloths that you use on the same V4
  3. Repeat step 2 for each item of clothing. Once all clothing has been added move on to step 4.
  4. Select V4 and apply morphs and Pose

EDIT: Repeat all steps for subsequent V4's added but use the next magnet down

You lost me.  Where are these magnets or do I have to go and create them like any other magnet I want to use on something?

...AND DAZ wonders why a lot of people find V4 hard to use!? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL Oh, the humanities!  :woot:

I think I'll stick to using WW :) It just seems easier and faster!

Also, some clothing allows you to inject the figure morphs into them so that they fit the figure exactly. I accidently stumbled onto that when I had a dress selected instead of the body when injecting a character morph. To my surprise the clothing item took the character morph and the clothing fit perfectly...even when the figure was posed in all kinds of positions, there was no poke through, even with the legs.

V4 uses a set of hidden magents parented to the figure to adjust the mesh as you pose - they largely replace JCMs for fixing deformations and adjusting the breasts in response to collar movements (and they also have visible controls to implement the movement morphs on the breasts). The magnetise poses tell Poser to apply the magnets to the clothing as well. The advantage of this is that people making clothes don't have to make matching JCMs, so you don't have to worry about keeping the collars locked in place or manually zeroing the morphs when the maker doesn't include the moprhs.

V4 isn't hard to use. She's simple. As Richard points out above, the hidden magnets are just another way of doing JCM's like the gen3 figures have.
Loading a 'Magnetize' pose allows the magnets to be added to the clothing. Nothing you buy should have poke through if you are using limits when posing. If you are getting poke through, use the Magnetize pose and this should correct the issue. If it doesn't, I'd check to make sure you are loading the clothing correctly and following any instructions by the creator.

To answer the original question ...
If you have one V4, you use the first 'pose' file to magnetize and clothing you load onto that one V4. If you load a second V4, you use the second 'pose' file to magnetize the clothing, etc.
If it;s got no poke through you are worried about, don't bother magnetizing :)

A little extra side note on the magnetizing. I've used it even when there hasn't been any pokethrough and it seems to make the clothing item (especially shirts) "hang" more naturally.

I haven't found V4 hard to use at all I was just wondering if one had to magnetize every piece of clothing you put on her. Thanks all for the answer to this and happy holidays!!

Magnetizing won't affect the clothing until you bend the joints the magnets are designed to affect ... if that helps as well :)

Mint3D ( ) posted Sat, 15 December 2007 at 3:51 PM

Just an important notice about magnetizing.

Some morphs are controlled by  magnets when magnetizing

  • BreastUpR
  • BreastUpL
  • BreastDownR
  • BreastDownL
  • BreastInR
  • BreastInL
  • BreastOutR
  • BreastOutL

If you have a clothing item which has these morphs build in ( which is really unnessary ) you will have effect twice.

You've got to be kidding! Using Daz's Magnetize poses just takes a second.

For what it's worth, here's my workflow:

Add the figures and pose / position them (in the buff). Add and conform clothing figures to each in turn.

Most of the time, the clothes fit just fine. If not, I'll magnetize them to the relevant character. And if that doesn't work, a little tweaking of parameter dials or hiding of body parts does the trick.

Are there differences between the order of operations suggested by cspear and MegaJax's workflows?

I mean:

Load V4 > Load clothing > Conform clothing > Apply magnets if needed > Apply morph > Apply pose  (MegaJax)

and

Load V4 > Apply morph > Apply pose > Load clothing > Conform clothing > Apply magnets if needed  (cspear)

Are these two sequences equivalent or one of them is better than the other one?

Try both ways for yourself, I found that if I loaded the morphs first then magnetised the clothing they did not fit properly. But by loading the morphs and posing after the magnets everthing worked.
