This is on sale at DAZ. Is it of any use to an perennial newbie end user like me who wants only to render still images almost always in "interior" scenes? Will it give me better renders than P7 FireFly? Does it take Poser pz3 files as is? Any opinions? I can't even search up good screen shots of the app.

Accorrding to the DAZ site it's compatible with the Carrara Pro plugins so you'll need Transposer2 to get Poser content in properly (morphed etc) and it uses the Carrara 6 render engine which is absolutely brilliant IMHO!!!  Most of the stuff in my gallery is rendered in Carrara 5 and now 6 and I love the look of a Carrara render!!

P.S. don't look in my gallery if you're offended by large frontal female attributes!!!

Well, since it imports Poser/DAZ content and has the full Carrara 6 renderer, I'd say go for it. You'll get much better interior renders from Carrara than Firefly, since Firefly doesn't yet officially support GI (global illumination/radiosity). There will still be a learning curve, and you'll almost definitely still want to set up your poses in Poser, but the rendering engine will seem like a gift from above. Think of it as a $20 rendering plugin for Poser :)

Definately can't go wrong at the price!!!  Like R_Hatch said...  I completely setup in Poser, lights and cameras in Carrara and I think it turns out pretty darned good!

Ache! Looks beyond my ability judging from the Transponder tutorials I looked at.. I post work anyway so it doesn't seem worth the trouble for me maybe. Transponder is $70 alone and free with Carrara Pro... is it free with Express does anyone know? I have not caught that in the promo copy. I dunno... I think maybe Poser is as sophisticated a program as a techono dino like me can manage. But the clarity in your gallery posts ghelmer, I have coveted that clarity. Maybe I can get it someday with Poser IBL. Nice renders.

you dont need transposer, you can import poser content directly into Carrara 3D express just like in poser fully rigged and ready to pose and animate.

Transposer is only useful for Dynamic hair and cloth. So if you don't go for dynamic, no probs!

Oh, I notice that Poser 7 importing isn't supported.  It will only import up to Poser 6.

I haven't decided to buy the thing yet, but it is in my wishlist.

That's only for transposer.

Poser 7 imports work with the latest patch on Carrara 6 pro. I am assuming that the patch will be available for Express very soon, if it is not there already.
