Subject: using Max to alter the geometry of a Poser figure?

I have 3DS Maxr3 w/Character Studio and Poser Pro Pack. I want to use Max to alter the geometry of a poser figure Can this be done? I want to open the lo-res female in Max chop its head off and replace it with a sphere primitive. Then I want to save it as a new Poser figure. Im starting to think this is not what the Pro Pack is for. I have experience with Poser 4 but not much with Max or the Pro Pack. Can you use max to edit the geometry of Poser figures, or is your only option to create an entirely new geometry in Max and convert it to a figure in Poser with the setup room? Thanks much for any opinions/info

You can do just about anything with Max that can be done in any high end modeling/animation/rendering software. In fact once you get to grips with the structure of Max and it's workflow it is a very intuative and user friendly application. You can make new geometries and tamper with the original geometries included with Poser i.e morph targets etc. With the pro pack you can import complete scenes straight from poser. I don't think you can edit the PPP imported geometries much though, although I may be wrong here. To use Max for what you require you will need the Habware 'wavefront object' import and export plugins for the version of Max you are running. The good news is they are free at: http://www.habware.at/duck.htm To replace the head with just a sphere you don't even need to use Max. You can just use the 'replace body part with prop' function in Poser. It all depends what you want to do with the sphere. Hope this helps. Colm...

Thank you for the response - so are you saying that the only way to alter a poser geometry with Max is by creating custom morphs?

Your welcome. You can alter the mesh in many ways. Not just morphs. It is far to complicated to go into here. There are many tutorials. Look in the tuts section here. Also check your Poser manual.
