Subject: Looking for Male necklace/wristbands

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Thu, 27 December 2007 at 3:26 PM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 1:16 AM

Mainly, looking for beads like male teens would wear - something casual not punk or formal.  Not having much luck in FS, MP, CP.

Thanks!

Got any reference photos? Doesn't sound like it'd be too difficult to whip them up (since I assume they'd just be props - no rigging required)

Edited to add: and for any specific character? Specific is easy, general requires a tad  more effort on the part of the user..

Cheers,
Diolma

I hate to point to eBay, but this is sort of what I'm looking for:

Necklace

Bracelet

Probably could model these myself - but only if I'm strapped finding them. :)

This will be for David but I can use deformers to place even a prop properly.

http://www.adzan.co.uk/html/downloads.html

On that page the "Love for Hiro" set includes a necklace that is similar to those shown in those eBay listings.  I have used it as both a necklace and bracelet.  To use it as a bracelet shrink it, rotate it to fit the wrist, move it in place, parent it to the forearm.

Thanks for the link - am downloading now.

Finally figured out what I'm looking for - White Puka Chip 'surfer' necklace/choker or bracelet.

There is also a freebie at the DAZ, David Necklace, that is in the surfer style.

Where exactly is that freebie necklace?

That's the fun part.  You can't find it directly at Daz's site.  Go to the Support->FAQ and you'll get a link. :)

That one isn't too bad, but I wanted more of the Puka chip type.  Ended up finding a quick way to do this in Cinema 4D using their 'String of Pearls' expression and a bunch of objects aligned along a spline in reference.

Oh, that;s a neat trick!  Can I see a preview picture?
I wonder if I can do this in Modo. I would like to try and create a dynamic necklace. Hmm....

There is a better way - but with a price ($80).  This is by using a plugin called [MSA](http://www.xlentplugs.com/) (Multiple Spline Attach) which does basically the same thing in Cinema 4D but with more features and control.

Basically, you load the C4D document from the Content Browser in R10 (Presets:Maxon:Cinema 4D:Add Ons:Expressions:Examples:StringOfPearls.c4d), replace the objects under the 'StringOfPearls' Null object with your own.  You can then edit the spline to get the general shape and the objects are automatically aligned, adjusted, and spaced along it.  The expression doesn't have any controls like the plugin mentioned above for spacing.  Orientation of the objects is controlled by the 'Up Vector' Null object (?).

Here are a few screencaps.  This is the general result. For now, I'm just using short primitive cylinders with a bit of filleting.  Looks something like those candy necklaces. :)

This one shows the affect of modifying the spline.

In this one, about a quarter of the cylinders were removed.

Just a shot of the cylinders under the null

Oh wow!  That is so cool!  oO!
You can't change the beads, right?  So no tiny bead - large bead - tiny bead, right?

Ooo... , I hope Modo can do that. I would love to make some cool jewerly for the guys. ^^

I bet you can use that nacklace as a dynamic prop in Poser. Are the beads hollow with the string passing through them?

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Fri, 28 December 2007 at 2:48 PM

Oh yeah.  Each 'bead' or object along the spline is individual.  The order is given by the order under the Null object so you can just alternate big bead/tiny bead under the Null object and that is how they will be ordered along the spline.

If you export all of the 'beads' as one .obj file (in Cinema 4D each bead would be a group in the file but all would be treated as one object).  So this could theoretically be used as a dynamic prop in Poser.  Not sure how well the integrity would hold up for the beads under dynamic simulation though.

I was considering using a tube instead of cylinders for the beads and adding geometry thickness to the spline to make a rope/string.  In my case, the shot is distant enough and the beads close enough to go the easier route.  This would be possible for sure.

I finally found the controls on the StringOfPearls expression.  Here I was searching for UserData on the XPresso node and the Spline.  It's on the Null object with the XPresso node!  So there are some controls to this little goodie.

Waaaa! I need C4d for these cool feature. (Modo is not able to do dynamic geometry). I would like to see what you come up with. If you need any pictures references, I can point you to links with this type guy necklace. ^^
