Diesel electrics, the last of the steam went the year before I joined as a trainee. Spent most of my time in the Central Nth Island, would'nt mind a dollar for every trip I've done up the Raurimu Spiral. I hope that a Metaball wheel tut is going to be a little sooner than a Daz 3d soon, theirs are very much later than sooner.
Cheers

Looking pretty hot! but the wheel cuts through part of the body.. u might want to fix that :-)
Also, shouldnt the arch of the flying scotchman logo over one of the wheels have a little higher radius? so that the curve's center (if u would extend the curve to form a full circle) would be located at the center of the wheel? just some nitpicky thoughts hehe keep goin! this locomotive is going to be so sweet!

I suddenly wanted to see what the bigger picture would look like and I need some reference points for the stuff that goes between the cab and the cylinder block. Besides, my head hurts.

Cybertosh: How long does it take what to load?
The driver's cab = a few seconds
The Loco = a few more seconds.
This red valve = a few seconds.
However, when I'm working on the loco file it can take an age to move the thing around, one of the reasons that I work on parts like the red valve seperatly and import to the loco when finished.
Thanks for stopping by. ;-)
I'm still working on the Driver's/Engineer's cab atm. Should be able to upload a view by friday.

JohnnyF: No, you're quite right! My apologies.
Actually that's just a number that's been painted on the side, it doesn't appear to be a bronze plate.
I've had to take a bit of 'artistic license' with this part because some of it was too awkward to model. (sigh)
Also, it is a bit shiny. I've been trying to get a black paint finish that looked worn and yet not too black. Some black mats just suck the light right up and leave you with nothing. I will be changing it though. I wanted to see it in situ before making the final decision.
For those of you who might be interested, there is a new publication out today in the UK that gives you the parts to build a real-world scale model of this loco and all the instructions etc. The 1st part is 50p but thereafter it's like £5.99. Too expensive for my tastes but some of you might like it.

The flanges on this piece were made by creating a heavily rounded cube from Spacebone's collection of enhanced prims and booleaning two opposing faces flat. This gives nice flange faces that have heavily rounded corners. Now by turning the flange about 25 degrees or so and then reducing a side by using the grabs, the whole thing 'skews' or 'shears' to give the kind of diamond shape you can see here. Simple! Try it for yourselves!
BTW this is a 'steam fountain', used to direct steam from the top of the boiler to other parts of the loco, but not the main driving pistons.

Kiwi_gg: What kind of locos? A Tutorial? Jeez! I can't even remember how I did it, let alone write a tut on the subject. I'll try to do something along those lines ....er......soonish ;-)
DestinysGarden: Welcome to the Asylum! And I thank you for the kind compliments. The Loco and Tender should be finished sometime in the next 12 months. Please don't hold your breath for that long, you'll turn blue!. ;-)
Rest assured I have just about got over my issues with the car crash, but thank you for your thoughts for my family.
