Subject: reflection effect

I try to get some mirror effect in a Poser scene. The reflection maps can only give some psychedelic colors at the scene, but no real reflection of the model in the mirror prop.It seems to work differently as Bryce or RDS. Is it possible to do that in Poser and how ? Thanks.

heyas; basically: no. poser does not use a ray tracer, and can't do real reflections. you can fake it in two ways... one involves rendering your image from the mirror-eye view (there was a message on the main poser forum a few months back on how to calculate that), and paste it onto a flat surface in your scene's mirror. alternately, if the scene is VERY simple, you can create a mirror-image of it by using two identical figures. that's kinda limited, though. if you have asymmetrical hair or clothing, forget it. :)

I found a way to get a real crisp reflection in the eye, I just had to warp the reflection map. It may be laid out like UV and once you figure out where the regions are you can get a good reflection. The eye was easy (sort of) because it's a sphere, the answer was pretty simple. Probably the one sided square prop in front of your mirror with the mirror's color set to black, apply the reflection map to the one sided square only, making the color transparent min 0 max 100, the material color medium grey. Play with the hilight % and color. Any photo or render should work on the one sided square unlike most other shapes. Still it's only good for single renders, that is you have to set up a specific scene reflection. I'm finding it very interesting. The outdoor scenes I made my maps from seemed like they were general enough they might be good for multiple scenes. Let me know if you discover anything else on the subject.
