Subject: Fluid Error - Help Needed

Attached Link: My 1st Fluid Test In Blender

This is the problem I'm having with the Fluid simulator in Blender 2.45. I did a quick test all fine and good. No problems at all. So I decided later today to make a fun little animation with water. Unfortaintly, one I assign the main box as a "Domain" it imports the original fluid mesh instead of making a new one. Any idea how to fix this?

I'm also looking for basic tuts (hopefully Video) on water, grass, particles, hair, etc for NOOBS. Concidering I am one. Thanks.

hey.
first off, i'd like to say hell yeah, i'm making a come back.  i'm finally finished with most of my apps and my most recent java project which was not cg related.  even though i'm still swamped with work and relationships i feel its time to come back a bit.

is this a beta blender build or an official build?  did that object start out as a cub domain or something else?

SEspider ( ) posted Thu, 03 January 2008 at 12:38 PM

YES!!! Was wondering where you were, Bro.

It's Blender 2.45
The object was a sphere and a monkey head from the original test of a completly different file. The attached link in my above post if a vid of the test.

i should really download blender on my new computer (its been a while because i have been so concentrated on programming my renderer and interbeat)

do you have a coppy of the file that you wouldn't mind sharing?

SEspider ( ) posted Thu, 03 January 2008 at 1:45 PM

Which file do you want? The new one (pictured above) or the original Water Test?
Screw it, I'll put them in a .rar file for you. I'm going to need to Message it to you however. One has the spider model in it, and I don't want it getting out. You've been a good friend, so i'll trust you with it. Feel free to use the model, just don't market it. And credit me if you do in fact use it at all. Give me about 20-30 minutes.  I need to get a host for the file.

And thanks

don't worry, i probably won't end up using the model for anything, actually, would you mind if i use it to test my renderer?

currently this is all i have:

Wouldn't hurt to clean up the generated meshes from previous simulation runs (especially if you use the default naming).

SEspider ( ) posted Thu, 03 January 2008 at 4:02 PM

I'll get back with you in about 2 hours. I'm at work and the computer is acting up again.

**oomdb,
**
Files sent

I don't mind a bit. Would love to see it used for something productive. ^_^
All of the original color materials are on the material list of both files. But I joind the meshes and added a simple color to them for faster rendering purposes (my old PC is insanely slow). Simply Click a Vertical and "Ctrl + L" to select al of it's related mesh. You already knew how to do that, But felt it'll help any fellow noobs that read this.

Anyway, from there, you can pick apart the different parts. There's no Armature though. I've yet to get Armature exporting to work.

**nruddock,

** Thanks, er....how do I do that?

The easiest way to find the default directory where these files end up is to search for ".bobj.gz" files (it's likely to be something like C:/temp).
When you find them just delete them.

SEspider ( ) posted Wed, 09 January 2008 at 3:55 AM

Okay, I found the directory and deleted the (.rar) files. As well as something called "quit" Assumed it was needed to be removed as well. But I can get it back if need be.

Now The old liquid models are not coming up which is good. BUT, now the BAKE is starting at frame "-1" instead of "0" as it should. And then nothing happens. I've tested it with a domain box and one small Sphere set to be fluid and the same thing happens.

I want to start practicing on other simulations but this issue needs to be resolved first. An I going to have to re-install the program to et past this?

Thanks again

its perfectly alright for the bake to start at -1, that just means its doing some precalculations.    just wait for something else to happen, your computer might not have enough memory to do the bake, but i doubt that is the issue.  more likely is that your processor is to slow and you set the grid levels too high.

SEspider ( ) posted Thu, 10 January 2008 at 3:28 AM

Aww. Grid levels. That may be it. I have been experimenting with them.
I'll try returning to default and see what happens. Thanks.

oodmb ( ) posted Thu, 10 January 2008 at 11:08 AM

for a sim with a reasonable balance between time, resolution and memory the resolution should be from 70-120.  the grid levels is actually another option under the "advanced" ( st, ad[this one], bk) tab in domain options.  keep gridlevels at -1 for it to do it automaticaly
