Hey Folks,

My name is Shawn.  AKA Flog in these parts.  I float in and out of the Renderosity forums.  I am a Poser lover and love custom models.

I was wondering if someone would like to team up on a model?  I have a 3d model I want rigged but I'd like to sell it in the marketplace.

Does anybody know how to rig pretty good?  I'd love to work together and possibly sell this model and split profit down the middle for this character.

If you'd like to help and go in on this little project please contact me at sarms @austin.rr.com

I think what you're likely going to find is that most people whom know how to rig also know how to model, and are behind on rigging.... Being that rigging is the least favorite part of making poser stuff.

how much money is involved? would you and yer rigger hafta split the money with Cedric?

Given the reality of the Poser market, I wouldn't undergo the pain of rigging a figure unless the model was something I created and cared about. The Setup Room barely functions and the persistence and time invested in rigging a Poser figure is never pleasant.

I laugh at you puny mortals and your superstitious fear of the setup room! I laugh very loudly, and fall from my chair, rolling on the floor as it were.

You never rigged a 76 bone item, I take it? :tt2:

Make no mistake. I don't fear the Setup Room. I hate the Setup Room. It is a hatred born of experience.

Isnt the setup room like the 8th or 9th wonder of the world?

Handle every stressful situation like a dog.

If you can't eat it or play with it,

just pee on it and walk away. :-)

"Isnt the setup room like the 8th or 9th wonder of the world?" It must be. It fails in the most amazing and creative ways imaginable but works just well enough to rule out the option of quitting.

The Setup Room isn't that bad:) I'd rather have it than have to use Phibuilder. I actually have very little problem with the Setup Room. The thing I've found that makes working in the Setup Room  the easiest is having your model grouped and properly named before you  import it into Poser.

For me, making morphs is totally the worst part of figure creation .... boring, but very much a necessity.

I rigged this in the Setup Room in about 10 minutes:)

Mechanical things are fairly easy to rig compared to human figures.
The setup and bone creation is the easy part. The joint parameters are what takes forever.

So you're ok with that business of selecting a bone, targeting its joint, only to move a bone a few inches away from your target? Or how about targeting a joint and moving the entire skeleton? Personally, my favorite was the time I saved my work, only to have Poser crash mid-save and destroy all of my progress. Rigging the humanoid figure or a 56-bone rein is a special experience, though perhaps there are a few functional Setup Rooms out there somewhere.

Hear, hear! I knew it wasn't just me :) I also echo what you said about properly grouping the OBJ prior to import, or at least before bringing it into the setup room. The only time I've ever been mad or hated the setup room was when I had improperly set up the grouping, and tried to alter it in the setup room...huge mistake. Other than that, I only experience occasional hiccups.

Also, you should only use the setup room to place bones approximately. Do your adjustments and tweaking in the pose room.

The key to using the setup room is to know when not to use it, and what not to use it for.

Well, I'm with EdW, I'd much rather use the set up room than to make morphs!! I rig clothing which is closer to organic rigging than mechanical rigging. I'd much rather do the modleing and riigging and find someone that actually LIKEs to make morphs (is there such a person, I can;t imagine..).

I NEVER group in poser, mostly in AutoGroup Editor because of the 3D interface, or UVMapper pro  for fine details.

One trick I use it to just make the initial skeleton fit the grouping very loosely, don't try to be too precise right out of the gate. Then yse the joint editor in the posing room to refine the joint centers while you set up the fall off zones.

whoops just noticed R_Hatch made the same recommendations. Well at least we've confirmed each other's finding independantly.

Flog your figure needs the legs to be closer together, like in a normal standing position, it helps with the rigging.

I would rig this myself but there are still certain joint settings that cause problems for me.

"how much money is involved?
would you and yer rigger hafta split the money with Cedric"

Actually I was thinking the 50/50 would be between the rigger and Cedric.   I'm not looking for a cash benefit myself.

I really just wanted to get Alienboy to start working in the Poser community.    I"m getting him rigged for motionbuilder through C4D, I was just seeing what can be done in the Poser community.

I wanted to put Alienboy to work as a virtual actor and start building the brand.

I will go ahead and rig him myself.  :)  Thanks guys on your rigging discussion.    I know it's the wretched part of the whole character creation process.

Xantor, thanks for the offer :)  Rigging in Poser is a challenge that is for sure! :)
