Subject: The Case of the Disappearing Swords-Smart Props Refuse to Load!

RappyW ( ) posted Sun, 20 January 2008 at 8:26 AM · edited Fri, 15 November 2024 at 3:21 PM

Hello, I am a Vue Infinite user since late 2007, but I have just now started really integrating with Poser 7. So far, it has been excellent to the point of near perfection..save for one issue. Any scene I import lacks ALL smart props..now error message, no forewarning, no apparent reason. Are there any solutions to this annoying issue? It looks weird to have warrior poses with fists clenched around thin air.

Ok, always be specific on tech problems, please, it helps :)

-Vue Inf 5 or 6? What build of patch?
-What operating system, computer details etc?
etc, much info as possible helps :)

ok, you wouldn't happen to have a Vista ot vista 64 bit system would you? In which case, try running Vue as ADMINISTRATOR.

Normally this behavior is related to wrong pathnames to the geometries (.obj) in the pz3 files. Something Poser does not care about because it has a built in search functionality but for Vue it s a problem. So check the pz3 files and maybe correct the pathnames to the geometry manually there. and then try again.
The problem becomes worse whe using non default Runtimes for better personal structures. But this is not the only issue, sometimes even the original pathnames in the cr2 etc files are wrong already and they are "copied" into a pz3 file simply instead that Poser writes the correct one again.

Ditto what Wabe says and you might also want to run your Uncompress python in  Poser too to make sure all your obj's are not obz!
Sometimes Vue doesn't like the compressed version!
For correct paths I use a free utility here called Correct Reference!

Do I read it right that this very interesting little program only concentrates on texture issues? The problem with the geometry is not part of it it seems. Or am I wrong?

Wabe: Sorry, yes that is correct, the free one just does textures, there is a "pay for" version, Correct reference pro that does the geometry as well!
Apologies for the misleading post!

Okay, to go into more detail on my issue.

  • I use Windows Vista 32-bit.
  • The softwares in use are Vue 6 Infinite without any patches I cna think of and Poser 7.
  • The items I have tested so far and failed at are from Freak Primitive Weapons, Sword Kit, and Questor Swords, all from DAZ.

I am not that Poser-literate, so I am not sure if the geometries are messed up or not. I figured that I would, however, list some of the items in question in case someone else has had issues with them before..that would, of course, be an easy key to showing if they do have geometry issues. I am currently not in the money, so alas, I cannot pay for the Pro version.

The geometries might not be "messed up" just compressed. Run your uncompress script in Poser first, this is a quick way to see if it sorts your issue!
Once you run the script, resave your scene and try to import it into Vue again!

Thank you very much, that fixed it. I didn't mean to bother with a simple question like this...I guess I'm just so used to DAZ Studio I am like a newbie all over again with 3D when I use Poser.

No worries, happy to help!
You may need to do this quite oftem, especially if you add stuff to your runtime all the time like I do! [LOL].
I've got to the point where I run the script each time I put something new in my runtime, only takes a minute and saves any hassle later!!
