Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 06 4:35 pm)
It looks as though the default download filenames for all three versions of V4 are the same. So be careful about downloading so that you don't accidentally overwrite the old version. (You do keep backups, I hope.) Since DAZ have suspended access to the download until they resolve "issues" with the installer, I expect more confusing. I can't say any of this improves their image. And if you've an addon which uses the .obj file as a key to an encoded version, expect the old V3 problem of hidden changes to break things again.
Quote - Does V4.2 use the same OBJ file as V4.1 :- blMilWom_v4b.obj or does it come with a new one?
Thanks.
I downloaded before the installer problems were reported, and I've no idea what the "issues" might be. So I'm reluctant to take a chance. In the past, even with the same filename, and the same data, DAZ have changed the copyright date within the file comments. Which breaks checksums and such (and feels a trifle off, in terms of copyright law). (Nervously tries installing) Yes, it looks like the same filename. No obvious internal changes. And the intaller, while it has a couple of useful new features, is thoroughly histile to external runtimes.
Phil, while I remember... The new Male morph also seems to alter scale settings on the figure. When I was trying a V3 character with WW2, which used scale+morph, I found I needed to apply the scale changes to the clothes after the WW conversion. There's an unscaled versiopn of the Male Morph, but no sign of a scale-only pose which copuld be applied to clothing.
Hm I downloaded my V4.2 a few hours ago. Does anyone know what the suypposed problems with the installer should be? I haven't installed her yet... Mostly because I was confuzzled that there was both a V4.0 and a V4.2 in my available downloads.. should I install the old version then update that?! scratches head

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.

V 4.0 has a different .obj from V 4.1 or V4.2. The suggestions at DAZ were, uninstall V 4.0 and V4.1 before installing V 4.2. The recommendation is to load V4.2 to your main Poser or D/S runtime. The DAZ people say that having more than one V 4.X obj can cause problems. As usual there are exceptions.
If you have saved work using V 4.0 do not uninstall that figure or your saved work will not load.
If you did not install with an uninstall option, and still have the installation files, you can re-install with the uninstall option and then uninstall.
V 4.2 will overwrite V4.1 if installed to the same runtime. but not V 4.0. If you do not want to uninstall V4.1 DAZ says you can still install V 4.2, and the installer should overwrite the files it needs to and work properly anyway.
If you have Morphs++, Muscle Morphs, and/or Creature Morphs, you will still need to download and install an update for THESE morph packages. Everything else should work (fingers crossed).
If you use DAZ Studio you will need to upgrade it before installing V 4.2. An upgrade file should be in your Availible Download page.
V 4.2 now injects the figure's morphs so don't forget to inject them or characters, FBM, etc. will not work.
That's all I can think of. Anyone else?

Creature Creator Morphs require some special attention. See the first post by Steve in this thread (near the bottom of his post):
