Subject: fireman's hose and water prop?

MsPeril ( ) posted Sun, 03 February 2008 at 10:48 PM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 4:54 PM

Hi - I was just wondering if anyone had come across a poseable fireman's hose - preferably with a water jet that could be attached? Thanks in advance for any info! :)

I use the easypose tube for all those hosey type things . It can be scaled to suit. try freestuff here.
There were some water props either here or at renderotica also freestuff.

The hose nozzle you may be able to fake with a couple primitives . I dont remember seeing one anywhere .

I threw together a quick fire nozzle with handle , not uv mapped but split into a few material zones .

I haven't been able to find a water prop that looks quite powerful enough - kind of like a straight jet that cones slightly towards the bottom. I could well be missing it in my searches, though - do you happen to have a link (or the name of) the water prop you had in mind? Many thanks in advance (and sorry to be such a pest!!! :) )

I couldnt find the one I had in mind , it was quite some time ago.
you might be able to make one using the easypose tube , I am not sure if you can taper it , or scale segments .

there is a prop, water magic , that might work :(    maybe ?

sorry

absolutely no problem at all - many thanks for taking the time to look!!! :) I had a look at that one, but it doesn't have enough force behind it... I'll have a try with the easypose tube, tho. Thanks again!!! :)

Becco_UK has a range of convincing fluid props, in the market place here.

Thanks for the suggestion, Englishbob! :)  they're very cool props, but none of them really look like a water jet from a hose.

it's strange, actually - when I first started searching for this, I just assumed that there would be quite a few of them - there are a couple of firefighter clothing sets and even a fire-engine or two, afterall... lol, how on earth are the vickies and mikes actually supposed to put out their fires??? :):):)

Being as I have been a firefighter on and off for over two decades, let me see what I can put together.  I assume you want a real modern nozzle (ie, with pistol grip and such) rather than an old fashioned solid one?

MsPeril ( ) posted Tue, 12 February 2008 at 1:18 AM

Hey Keith - Many thanks for the kind offer - that would be fantastic - but only if it's absolutely no hassle! ...and modern would be perfect, thanks ! :) :) :)

Here's a quick early draft.  Obviously some rounding of corners to do (on the grip, mostly), but a fairly generic adjustable stream/adjustable flow 1.5" firefighting nozzle.  The only moving part will be the handle.

it looks fantastic! :) :) :)

Here's the final version.  Attached is an EasyPose hose, with a scale length of 25 feet scaled to the size of the nozzle  It's about the correct size in Poser 7 but probably a few percent off (I didn't measure it).  There's only 14 segments, so if you bend it too much it obviously kinks (but then, so does real hose under pressure).  The handle rotates forward and back, labeled "Open-Close" when you select the handle.

When I get home I'll package it up and get it distributable and up on sharecg.

And yes, I am going to do a water prop, adjustable from straight stream to fog.

It's now up on sharecg at:

http://www.sharecg.com/v/23278/poser/Firefighting-Nozzle-and-Hose

I've done three smart-propped hose streams: a fog stream, medium width stream, and a straight stream.  The water material is very, very crude and basic: you'll have to find someone who knows the material room or texturing who is much better than I (not a hard bar to jump).

It's not perfect by any means (or not even all that accurate), but should work for everything except extreme closeups.  I''ve submitted it to Freestuff here as well, but that usually takes a day or two to show up.

That's just perfect - exactly what I was looking for!!!!!

Really so very generous of you to make the models - I'm sure that a lot of people are going to find this very useful! :)

Many many thanks again - it's absolutely fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :)
