Subject: V4.2 [again!] How has she worked for you???

thefixer ( ) posted Thu, 14 February 2008 at 5:14 AM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 6:54 PM

I've got it but haven't installed it yet and not sure if I should!!

There seems to be lots of peeps having problems, posts here and in the galleries of it "breaking" Poser and peeps having to re-install Poser from their back-ups!!

So, is it as bad as it seems? Why the problems??

I sure don't want to install the bitch at the minute!!

meh - I'm still running V4.0, there's nothing much wrong with her that I can't fix in Zbrush/Photoshop so I can't see any advantage of installing 4.2 to be honest.  I don't want male morphs - I have M3/Apollo/David/The Freak if I want a male figure.  I rarely use A3 so A4 isn't a big draw either.  This whole "Thou shalt install only in the Poser Runtime" bo**ocks has somewhat put me off her

i think i'm gonna do the same, download and not install it yet,

i have nearly finished tidying my poser so that all my stuff is where i want it to be (only taken about six months or so!!) and then i will make copies of the tidy version all over the place.

then maybe.....MAYBE!!! .....i will install it

am looking forward to seeing A4 but am hoping it isn't actually going to be a V4 morph based character, as i think that would be very limiting, hoping it is just a thing to make A4 clothes to fit V4..i think i would be happier with a seperate base figure though for A4, instead of this weird transformer that is being born,

i did see a render the other day, that was V4 but looked very Aikoish (new word just trying it out) looked quite good actually, but i still wanna seperate base!!

Gimme what i want dammit!!!

anyway you are lucky i am even talking to you after the other week!!! how dare you ...and Wales, take advantage of England stopping playing at about 50 minutes in, just so that you can win the game and say we have beaten you at twicky-nem now!!!

i am thouroughly disgusted with the lot of you, you should all be ashamed of your shelves (they are not level at all.......(an official carpentry joke))

and can we have our ball back please!!

Iam happy with V4.2.
Great Male-morphs - working excellent

I have installed V4, but something is wrong with her - she breaks at the hip, impossible to move the legs. I will delete her by hand and reinstall, hopefully it will work then. Not happy.

P5, copied all the 4.1 files as insurance, installed 4.2, haven't had any problems. My only complaint is that it didn't come with a toe chopper. :)

I've loaded up four characters and applied the injections and mats and everything seems ok.
I haven't done any extensive work with her yet however, so it could be something will crop up.

V4.2 works perfectly for me. The new male morph is a bonus, a bit limited on its own but used in conjunction with the muscle morphs looks quite versatile.

Due to the lack of clothing for male V4 I've been experimenting with WW2 and my initial impressions are:

M3 And David stuff for below the waist converts to V4 Male fine. Anything covering the chest converted from M3 / D3 seems problematic. However, suitable V4 tops seem to lose their lady-bumps and fit the figure reasonably well.

Not enough time to really get to grips with this yet, but so far so good. Hopefully PhilC's working on a V4.2 update to WW2.

BARCODE WROTE "Man dont have the Eyelid under the pupil Female do have that .

And the eyes are too large and round to be a  males eyes. Thats what struck me as being slighty off with the V4.2 male faces.

You gotta be able to have that  'clint eastwood', squint. hee.

no probs here, just made a folder at the root of my HD named runtime, then created a a text document and renamed it poser.exe. then run the V4.2 installer and set the destination to my fake new folder(called runtime), the i have all the V4.2 files all where i need,i then dragged and dropped them into my external poser runtime and all works fine, including V4 and V4.1
painless....

Getting old and still making "art" without soiling myself, now that's success.

Madbat ( ) posted Thu, 14 February 2008 at 6:19 PM

I had some issues that I fixed, she works fine in Daz for me, but so did V 4.1. I really don't need the male morphs as there are a ton of male figures out already, but they might come in handy later.

Male eyes are too female looking, makes 4.2 look like a drag queen I think.

I am very displeased with the lack of organization to the INJ morphs.  They're all just piled into a single directory.  I appreciate having control over what I want to load or not load but if they were going to fall back to 3rd gen methodology they should have gone the whole 9 yards and broken the morphs into sensible directory groupings, instead of just a big messy pile.
ps: thumbs down on the perspective distortion in most of the icon closeups as well.
pps: No coresponding REM poses, VERY VERY SLOPPY by DAZ's own standards.  Don't they have publishing guidelines that say they reject brokered content that's done like this??

Swordman--with Morphs++ you can make the eyes smaller.  V4.2 makes a very excellent male and is very versatile.   Even after dial up the musculature using M++ AND Muscle Morphs, however, the chest remains perfectly flat and untouched.  This can be solved in about three seconds using the morphing tool. I have used it here to increase muscle mass of the chest to match the musculature I've dialed up on the rest of the figure.

Question at another forum:
I haven't downloaded her yet but will at the weekend.
What's your impression of the new version?
My responce:

Still trying to decide...... so far only differences
V4.2 loads as a stripped version of V4.1
You have to inj any morphs you want to use.
There are new male morphs that I don't think I will ever use
You have to inj any morphforms also (grasp, eye up down side to side, bend ect.).
I have problems opening up and rendering old files w/ V4.1 in them
when replaced w/ V4.2  : slow opening then crash if not with first render
then on the second (can't load texture pop ups  then crash)
Can still open up original file and render only diff is V4.1/ V4.2 so......
IMHO: A male morph inj pose and a V.1 NM  (no morph) Cr
w/ new morph inj pose folders (grouped w/ all of group and individual inj
poses) were all daz needed to create for install and give us the option
instead of messing things up.
If I had known and were not a morpher that needed to know I would not
have installed her (V4.2)
Installer beware, It's up to you

raelislington:

I have not tried the morph tool yet on the pectorals. The Muscle Morphs were made for females where the upper part of the pectoral would be muscular, and the lower part breast fat tissue. Therefore the Muscle Morph's pectoral morph enlarges the upper 1/3 of the pectoral muscle, but not the lower 2/3s. The breast morphs available for V 4.2 do not compensate for this and cause the Male V 4.2 to look more like it is afflicted with gynecomastia (man breasts). This is not very masculine.

The arms also have a problem. The deltoid does not insert realistically into the upper arm. The bisceps do not really bulge in the middle (which is realistic for female biceps, but not most males). The forearm morphs seem to be missing several major muscle groups. There are no tendon morphs at all (even females have tendons). The Morphia figure adds a little realism, and some forgotten/neglected morphs (such as thickening/thining the elbow and knee joints). I am waiting to see what pdxjims Vittorio 4.2 will add to this mix. I also note that Psychohazard's Omnimorphic morphset (here at Renderosity) has some general morphs that may be worth trying out.

If anyone know of other morphsets (male, female, juvenile, children, or even creatures), I at least am interested in looking them over.

I don't think Daz puts the effort into thier products like they use to. They seem to kind of cheep out or not bother with a lot of things these days. The lack of morphs, compared to V3, the disorganisation of files. They don't listen much to the poser users anymore.

If it was not for thier figures, still work better than others and those insane sales, I would spend even less than I do now there.

Madbat ( ) posted Sat, 16 February 2008 at 2:35 AM

Yep, I think V3 was way more versatile in regards to morphs than V4, and I have to agree, the morph directory for V4.2 is a mess. This run was really sloppily done I think.

thefixer ( ) posted Sat, 16 February 2008 at 2:40 AM

Well thanx for all the responses, I've not seen enough so far to install her!

To be honest it sounds like a right fiasco and anyway I like Miki 2 so I think I'll use her more instead and V4.1

Thanx!

Well, my V 4.1 characters seem to load ok, I may uninstall V666 and send Daz a nice thank you letter.

Valerian70 ( ) posted Sat, 16 February 2008 at 6:41 AM

I haven't had any issues using V4.2 alongside V4.1 and V4.0 - no I didn't read the lengthy you must do x, y and z to install this new version.  I installed the new version to a deaktop folder with the Poser executable copied in and then moved her from there to my V4 Runtime and all works tickety-boo.

First thing I did on loading her was slap all the morphs in and then resave the cr2, the one thing I liked about the original release was those morphs were preloaded.  Not done anything with her yet except render some of the male textures for a friend that was trying to make their mind up which to get.

Just more Daz hoopla for something that isn't that big a deal.  I only really buy ther ein sales now but even that amounts to a substantial amount more than I spend here.  For a time RDNA got the most of my budget but since they all but dropped G2 support I buy nothing there apart from the odd Real Deal.

Marque ( ) posted Sat, 16 February 2008 at 9:18 AM

Why did they stop supporting the G2 characters?

MikeJ ( ) posted Sat, 16 February 2008 at 9:44 AM · edited Sat, 16 February 2008 at 9:45 AM

I installed v 4.2 just to see what's up with it.
Well, I've never been a fan of the eyebrow thing. Maybe as a prop, but not as part of the mesh. Waste of time, far as I'm concerned.

However, I find V 4.2 to be a very very unique figure. Unique in the respect that it has one thing which none of my other Poser figures have, and for that matter, none of my objects in any other programs:
The ability to immediately crash Poser 7 the second I move the camera. OGL error.

That could be useful if I ever decide to make a video of Poser 7 crashing, but otherwise, I guess I'm not seeing much advantage here to having V 4.2.

It's OK though. I understand due to the highly advanced nature of the V-4 series, my computer and graphics card might simply not be up to the challenge. Vista ultimate 64-bit, six gigs ram, dual core AMD 6000+,  Poser 7 with the latest update, with my brand new EVGA 640 MB 8800 GTS card might be a bit under the necessary specs.

I think I'll just go and do something a little more primitive and less demanding, like play Crysis or Oblivion with all the settings on full at 4x AA and 1680x1050 resolution. Or load up fifty V 4.0 models and rotate the camera all over the place as fast as possible.  At least I can do those things without any problems.

Attached Link: V4.2 Morph Loader Hack

Here's a hack that AprilYSH devised.  I have included my updated version as well.

Aprils version will load up the Victoria 4.2 cr2 and the ++ morphs
My version will load up the Victoria 4.2 cr2 and the following morph sets:

Base
++
Creature
Muscle

You must own all of these for this to work or you will get error messages.

Enjoy!!
