Subject: Falling out of love with my PW subscription

Neyjour ( ) posted Sat, 16 February 2008 at 5:22 PM · edited Tue, 03 December 2024 at 2:19 PM

I used to love love LOVE my subscription to PoserWorld, and would sing their praises whenever anyone would ask about them, but ever since their new site went live I've noticed a drastic reduction in the frequency of new items.  And on several occasions there have been "new" items listed that are in fact not new.

For brand new subscribers it's still one hell of a great deal, but for someone who's been a subscriber for a long time, I just can't justify the cost right now from what I'm seeing (or more accurately, not seeing).  Unless someone has heard news that they're soon planning on offering new items on a more frequent basis, like they used to?

My subscription expires this month and I'm seriously considering not renewing it... :(

Well, Steve has added some new stuff for V4 and SP3 last months, from what I heard in another forum, he is very busy making new models. I agree it has been a bit quite the last year, but if you consider the huge amount of models that are available at Poserworld I think the membership is still worthwhile.

Bopper.

That's good to know that they're busy working on new stuff.  Thanks.  :)

Like I said, brand new subscribers still get one hell of a great deal (they'll be downloading for a month straight!  LOL!) , but for someone like me who already has everything, the slow trickle of new items just doesn't seem worth the cost of renewing my subscription.

I still have a little while longer to decide, but I'm thinking I may just let it lapse and check again in 6 months or a year.  By then there would be enough new content to warrant a subscription again.

I'm just very disappointed.  I used to check almost every week for new stuff and be so excited to see what had been added, but now weeks (and sometimes months) go by before I check again and there's really not much there.  The new site is great, but I'd gladly go back to the old one if it meant much more content on a regular basis...like there used to be.

When I renewed my subscription about a month ago and I got a DVD with tons of models of the past years, that DVD alone made the subscription valuable.

Since I´m a member of PW the clothes have gotten more quality and they are more modern. When I think about the high prices of clothes since V4, Poserworld is still cheap.
Yes, Steve is busy with new stuff, and to create more stuff he certainly needs a view more helpers. So far I know is Steve also working in real life and Poserworld is a "free job" in sparetime.

Neyjour ( ) posted Sat, 16 February 2008 at 6:19 PM

wheatpenny, I'm definitely thinking that's the way to go now.  The only drawback is that during the "wait time" between subscriptions, if an item pops up that you really want, you can't get it until you subscribe again.  I've always kept my subscription going because I was very happy with the frequency of new stuff and the fact that I could download whatever I wanted whenever I wanted it.  Heh.  :P  Ah well...

PW's quality is definitely up.  I'm just a bit disappointed that there's not more V4 clothing.

I've been disappointed in the lack of new Apollo stuff -- that's why I didn't renew

Niles ( ) posted Sat, 16 February 2008 at 7:40 PM

I agree great for newbie, but the updates are a little slow. As for more V4 ... I had rather more quality Male clothes, and more dynamic/hybred items.

jefsview ( ) posted Sat, 16 February 2008 at 9:25 PM

Okay, so the updates aren't as often as they used to be -- but then again, PW used to be more than 1 person. With the site overhaul, came a shake-up with the staff, for whatever reasons. So it's a 1 man modeller/texture artist.

How many other vendors do you know that produce as much as Steve does? I think it's pretty amazing, actually. And his skills are always growing. The models from the past year have been fantastic and superior to the P4 days.

I'll take quality over quantity any day, and with Poserworld there's always something different.

As for older items that had appeared in the New category, that was due to the site migration to new servers and re-uploading the content.

But for 1 artist to produce such a wide range of material, I thank Steve should be applauded and subscribers should re-up to show their support.

As for "Need more V4/Apollo/Miki/Nearme/younameit, there are a lot of requests in the forums and Steve also needs his own pet projects to keep him interested (he is still an artist, after all). Apollo clothing takes more time to make, but Steve is committed to making more. Is it as abundant as M3 or whomever? No. But some figures aren't as popular as others. Being an Apollo user/fan, I've submitted my lists and patiently await, and have seen my requests come to fruition. It's just a matter of time.

Have I downloaded as much as I have previously? No, of course not, since I have downloaded it all (of what I need) in the past. And I have no need for dresses of any sort. But there will be something that I will need and it will appear. I have faith in Steve and he has a large responsibility.

But he's only one man. I think he's doing a fantastic job on his own.

to cut the cost, a lifetime membership is probably the way to go.
I've been a member over there for quite some time..in fact, if I remember right, there were only a handful of items when i first joined..probalby 2000 or so. I've already paid more than what a Lifetime would be because I do annual renewals. Ususally don't have enough cash to do a Lifetime.
anyway , to renew to a Lifetime is only $125. That's only 3 years of annual membership, so if PW is around longer than 3 more years, its all in your pocket...basically free.

I haven't kept track of what has been released in 2007, but it has to be at least 20 items, probably more, so that's $2 each on an annual membership. Pretty cheap for sure.

I will say though, that it seems releases have slowed down quite a bit, but it is probably because of real life, and the modeling , which, as has been stated, is a one man show.

I've thought about getting a lifetime subscription in the past, but it's just so much to pay out in one chunk.  I know I'd be saving a heck of a lot in the long run, but...  Home bills, vet bills, groceries, vet bills, gas, vet bills, pet food...oh, and did I mention vet bills?  Heh.  :P

Anyway...maybe next time I subscribe I'll see if we can swing a lifetime.  Would be nice, but it's just not doable right now.

Take a break from your subscription. The stuff will still be there when you can afford to come back unless the site dies completely. Maybe save up your pennies for a lifetime subscription when you return.

Yeah, that'll be the plan.  :)  I'll just keep checking back from time to time to see how much (and how often) new stuff is being added, and then judge by that when to re-subscribe.  I really hate to let my subscription lapse, but I just can't justify it right now.

Thanks all, for your thoughts and comments about this.  :)

"I used to love love LOVE my subscription to PoserWorld, and would sing their praises whenever anyone would ask about them, but ever since their new site went live I've noticed a drastic reduction in the frequency of new items"

To be honest i'm not sure why, i'm still working as hard, i think its a combination of  increasing the quality (takes longer) and doing conversions, to get around this i am cutting right back on conversions, they take so so long and there is plenty high quality conversion software folks can use. I will be making quicker models as fill in while making more complex models so there is no gap between updates. But please note we promise 1 set a week yet made over 100 last year.

"And on several occasions there have been "new" items listed that are in fact not new."

Sorry, we are still finding the odd model we missed from the site change

I think it has to be said that Poser World isn't for everyone, I'd be a fool to think otherwise, if you are the type of artist that only uses one model maybe we are not the best choice, but if you are an artist that likes to use a wide variation of models or sees a model then sees an image (rather than the other way around), then i'd say PW is for you. But having said that if you are, lets say, a Steph 3 fan we have 3 new sets for her this year, what would you have paid for those as seperate models, heck can you even find new clothing for her :o)..........Steve

Poserworld is more than just clothes, there is some great room models, scenes, and everyday props.
And as Steve said with crossdresser and ww, I have been having a blast convert older stuff to more current models.
I'm a Lifer and have have never regretted it, and for Newbie it is the best deal you will ever find.

Damn and right now there's no "special discount" on a Yearly membership of course :(

sigh I guess I'll have to do a 3-month'er and then hope for a new offer in the meantime...

Now Steve, go process my order!  LOL.  I'm kidding, I can be patient.  I just hope it doesn't take until  Monday.

For someone who wasn't member for quite a time, Poserword is an incredible deal.

For those who renew, there is a special offer, so it's cheaper to renew for one year than to buy half a year for the regular price. Maybe no longer incredible, but still a very good deal.

I renewed some minutes ago - I would have forgotten to do it in time, since my subscription would end tomorrow too. There is still more than one set per week, if I counted what was published in the last 12 months. Not enough?

Okay, I would like to see more for Apollo too. But I do use the stuff for the females, and the scenes are great too. Maybe it's not for everyone, for me it's a good deal.

Dave-So ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2008 at 9:55 AM

I just got my renewal notice yesterday, as a matter of fact.
The price is more than fair..$40..plus you get the DVD with 5 years worth of stuff...although I got that last year, so don't need it again unless newer stuff has been put on it.

I just wish I could afford to plop down for the LIFETIME membership.

Maybe you could start a payment plan or something, but all of it would have to be paid in full within 6 months or so :)
Yeah..that's the ticket.... pop the price to $180...then you pay $30/month for 6 months and you're a lifetime member. And should you decide not to do it after 2 months, or whatever, the time is pro-rated such that you then get an annual account, or some such deal, depending on where you stop paying. Its kind of like an award system...pay $30/month for the entire 6 months you qualify for the Lifetime.

Well I became a member and I recently ordered the DVD on December 31 and it still has yet to arrive! I've contacted the proper folks through emails and both times I was told it will be sent out. I'm still waiting and am becoming very p*ssed off. I have not a clue what's going on or why I can't seem to get what I paid for.

Never again.

I was fairly flush when I first encountered PW some years ago, and I opted for lifetime membership.  Never regretted it.  Even when funds are low, now, I can look forward to quality downloads from PW.
Over the years I've seen several other sites try a similar subscription plan - some with one artist, some with a whole squadron.  None were able to keep up the kind of output that Steve has, either in quality, quantity, variety, or duration.
In my estimation, the best deal in all "Poser-dom"

bantha ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2008 at 1:23 PM

I got my DVD about two weeks after becoming a member IIRC. So granted, it should not take so much time. But since nearly everything is available online, it should not be that much of a problem - you can download what you need.

OMG! Which site did you try?! I've tried that eHarmony and it sure was a colossal waste of money.  I had a pretty narrow distance selected because I am not into long distance relationships. However I wasn't getting any matches. So I expanded the distance. After that I was being sent matches for guys in the states living on FARMS!!!  I HATE FARMS!  LOL  I'm a city girl through and through. I live in the heart of downtown. i purchase stuff from renderosity, daz, and cp. i am happy with the purchases i have made and the way i have been treated and will continue to do business with them.

what is different about poserworld is that it seems personal. besides the good stuff i've gotten, i really like dealing with people i know. (of course $5 a month could alternatively buy a six pack, a trip to macdonalds or a cabbage and a package of carrots.)

I live out in the country because I like open space, the less people the better. But it's a simple road trip to the city to socialize when I want to or go to a hockey game. Meeting people is easy. The city is fun to play in but I like my elbow room. I like not hearing the neighbors go to the bathroom. The constant noise of trains, planes and automobiles.

BTW, I'm one of those long haired rock and roller freaky people that lived for the fast lane for many years and survived. LOL.

LOL.  I'm a suburbanite.  I want to live far enough away that I don't smell the neighbors' dinner unless they're grilling, but close enough that it only takes me 5 minutes to get to WalMart. I'm with you on the fewer people the better, though.  As long as I'm not in the car for an hour trying to get to the grocery store.
