Subject: What's a good MALE figure?

stevelee ( ) posted Thu, 17 January 2008 at 10:43 PM · edited Wed, 04 December 2024 at 3:20 PM

I have spent a great deal of time buying and posing female figures, but have now (perhaps I am growing up) come around to wanting a versatile male figure for some renders.  By versatile I mean one that can be morphed into a good variety of ages and sizes without having to buy too many extra morph packages.  The figures like Simon or James that come with Poser seem very limited.  Since "very limited" also describes my cash flow at present, I would appreciate a good heads up on what to go for.

Attached Link: Apollo by Anton

Search up the free figure called Apollo. It also takes Face Room. http://www.antonkisieldesigns.com/~akfiles/htmlpages/ApolloMaximusFree3dhumanfigure.htm

There are some commercial textures for it at ARTCollaborative and PoserPros I think but you may have what you need in the default package and the work by Bagginsbill.

Today I was using it with old Poser 4 and Poser 5 stock poses and it went alright with some tweeking.

There are also free textures available from Apollo's main download site. I recommend Creon by pitklad.

Apollo easily morphs into any age of man, can also become an infant or even to monstrous proportions.

For sheer realism and versatility - Apollo Maximus.

First, second and third: Apollo Maximus. The best male figure around, extremely versatile and to my knowledge the only figure which can believably be a baby or a big fat man, and all between. You can even use the Face Room with him.  Anton did an unbelievable good job with Apollo, since he is free there is no reason not to get him.

If you want other male figures, I would suggest the G2 Males. I personally use them much more than the DAZ males. But no morph pack will make them even half as versatile than Apollo, and the DAZ males will probably always be best supportet by the merchants.

You could also consider Hiro. He is free at download.com, and he has all his morphs in the same package, no extra buy.

Of all the free figures available Apollo is for me by far the best.

Don't think I've ever seen such almost unanimity of opinion in this forum before.  Downloaded Apollo, and yes, he is great, and just what I needed.  Thanks to everyone for the advice.

Well, there's only one Apollo :)

And no one has created a figure that is as good, or as versatile as Apollo Maximus.

Now if you're going to need a diverse wardrobe, you'll have to buy Wardrobe Wizard 2.15, since there isn't much available for Apollo.

Unless you count the 3 sets of clothing included in the free downloads that can be mixed & matched & textured however you want.

Someone say "MALE?"

I guess it all depends on what you are in for?

If you are a PC member, David or Hiro are both good options. There is much more support for them than Apollo, and they are still good figures (though, apollo is better, I think). Stay away from Mike 3, unless you want to spend all your time postworking various imperfections. One day I'll try to convert some stuff over to apollo, but until I do, David is my personal favorite, since he can actually wear modern day clothing.

vote for Apollo.  Better figure + free = go get Apollo.

Unfortunately, you can't download it right now (Because his month bandwidth has been used) and so have to wait til next month since there seems to be no mirrors for it.
