Subject: Can't Ventilate

Clouseau ( ) posted Wed, 05 March 2008 at 6:18 AM · edited Thu, 26 December 2024 at 7:46 AM

For some reason, Clouseau cannot get the ventilators to work. He brings one into his scene, points it directly at the tree and nothing happens in either a still render or an animation. Can someone help poor Clouseau with his predicament? Thanks.

Is the wind enabled in Clouseau's atmosphre editor?

Clouseau ( ) posted Wed, 05 March 2008 at 9:39 AM

 The wind is indeed enabled.

Is the strengh of the ventilator set to higher than zero? Sorry for the stupid question, but you never know.
Also, if it's an ecosystem it is supposed to ventilate, is the "influence ecosystem" super tiny icon checked?

Peggy_Walters ( ) posted Wed, 05 March 2008 at 10:09 AM

And be careful if you try to influence ecosystem - it can take a long time to calculate the wind on for example, an eco using 100s of grass plants...  Save your file first!

Affirmative to both questions Bruno, no worries about the simple questions.

Another dumb question...have you actually rendered?  Sometimes the plants don't show as being blown in the workspace or nanopreview but they do when rendered.

Also check the plants response to wind in the plant editor

Yes, Clouseau has done both of these.

bruno021 ( ) posted Thu, 06 March 2008 at 4:44 AM

I just tried a test scene, and Clouseau is right, ventilators don't work at all, ecosystems or single plants. One for Tech support.

Clouseau ( ) posted Thu, 06 March 2008 at 4:47 AM

Hmm, this is a strange one, what's going on chaps?

bruno021 ( ) posted Thu, 06 March 2008 at 4:58 AM

There's a beta update called 292547 at e-on, I can't install it right now, away from home with one the most expensive and slow internet connections I ever had, but if you are using this built and the ventilators don't work, you should contact tech support about it.

Mine do.  They can be stubborn, but they do

Little render....maples are ecosystem, leafless tree is not

Thanks Gill, Clouseau will give it a shot later on today.

Clouseau uses 291733.

bruno021 ( ) posted Fri, 07 March 2008 at 4:10 AM

Hmm. so it is possible that this feature got broken inbetween builts, fixed and broken again.
Very possible imho.

gillbrooks ( ) posted Fri, 07 March 2008 at 6:16 AM

I've always found it to be a little flaky.  Changing a parameter or moving the ventilator can cause it to malfunction, but I found that moving it again very slightly would get it to work again.

All very odd.......

Hmm, strange stuff. Thanks for your responses and feedback.

If anyone else has anything to add, please feel free.

Solidgrowth plant, not static plant? (I'm grasping at straws here.)

Clouseau ( ) posted Fri, 07 March 2008 at 6:56 AM

 'tis indeed solidgrowth.
