Why,after I install all the files in the proper places,do they not show up in the library after I open the application. I have tried importing, etc. however NOTHING has worked. PLEASE HELP.

Which files? For what download? Which library?

Maz ( ) posted Wed, 13 June 2001 at 2:08 PM

As Mason says, we need a bit more information to answer your question with any confidence. However, a possible answer is as follows. Quite a lot of people try to be helpful when zipping their files and include the path, such as runtimegeometriesBloggs. Unfortunately they don't always tell you that this is what they've done. Consequently you tell Winzip to put the files in runtimegeometriesBloggs and it then creates a new set of directories there called runtimegeometriesBloggs so you end up with the file actually installed in a directory called runtimegeometriesBloggsruntimegeometriesBloggs and of course you can't find it. Try using findfile to locate the files. If that doesn't work then give us some more information.

Another common one I've encountered is having: Program FilesCuriousLabsPoser 4.... in the zip paths while my installation of Poser is at: Program FilesMetacreationsPoser 4... - Mark

Mac or Windows?

american_astronomer ( ) posted Thu, 14 June 2001 at 10:29 AM

I'm using a Mac, when i place something like,a new character,or a prop in thier respective folders(ie. runtime/geometries and / or libraries/characters etc.) then open Poser and look under(for example) the figures/new figures area ,there is nothing there.

Maz ( ) posted Thu, 14 June 2001 at 10:52 AM

If a prop is an obj file, or 3ds file you have to import it using the File..import menu. Once you've imported the object you then have to save it as a Poser prop by using the pull out thingy at the right hand side of the screen using the + button. Next time you want it, it will be there. With the character files have you actually checked to see if the files really are in libraries/characters/YourDirectoryName or whatever? It sounds to me as if you think you are putting the files there but they are actually ending up somewhere else, as in my other post above. Maz

Are you putting the files in libraries/characters, or another directory under there, eg libraries/characters/mypeople? you should normally do the latter. Then, when you click on 'figures' you should see a pull down menu immediately below it, one of the options of which will be mypeople or whatever you called the folder. Click on that and you should find your figure there. Maz

On Mac you probably have to run them through Maconverter first, so that they have the right filetype. If they originally came from PC, they won't have the right filetype when you get them. An option is to use Macinstaller, which will put all the files in the right place for you. (But still use Maconverter on them first.)

If you downloaded PC files you have to change the file types/creators so Poser (Mac) would recognize it. Check tutorial section.

The PDF tutorial has reached its "best before" date a bit some time ago, I'm afraid... :-) You'll need the converter (like doozy said) which you can get (among other tools) from the site above.
