Subject: Question about thumbs

drhsudc ( ) posted Wed, 13 June 2001 at 10:45 PM ยท edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 9:03 PM

was wondering how to do the following... 1) Create a thumbnail of a pre-rendered character complete with applied textures, etc (so it doesn't appear all white or have transparent parts) 2) Allow double-clicking of the aformentioned thumb to open up a character in the document window with textures, etc applied so it doesn't appear white/transparent. Currently, when opening a character in the library, it opens up all white and/or with some of the parts transparent. I have to render the character to figure out if I need to apply all or some of the textures/maps to the character and would like to skip this step prior to working with a character

Just an addendum to my post... I like the thumbs to not have the square around it... I solved the thumb issue only by using Seno's P3dO Explorer program, but it saves new thumb CR2s as boxes in the library

The standard way of doing the first is to render the scene, paste that to the background, hide the figures and save a temp library entry. Move the resulting small .rsr (.png if you're on the Pro-Pack) to the the real library entry. The second isn't going to happen if you mean having it look like it would in a rendered image. You can use the Display > Document option 'textured' (something like that anyway, it's the last item on the list) to show the figures with a fairly grainy example of the figures texture. There's no way around the transparency issue except to turn the settings down till you actually render the figure. As to the addenda, I'm not certain what you're asking about here. Aren't all the library items boxes?

RE to addendum regarding library boxes: Poser standard library items come on a grey background with the darker circle on it. Sometimes I have noticed that when saving to the library, the boxes are "raised" and are smaller (it just looks kind of inconsistent with some raised, some not raised). When editing the thumbnail in Seno's 3dO explorer program, it saves them as full 91x91 pictures. it appears that when saving to the library, poser normally saves the figure and deletes whatever background that the figure has (this allows for a non-raised background) it appears that there is no way around editing a picture and copying it to Seno's Explorer without having it appear "flat". Poser defaults save library thumb characters as figures with shadows behind them (which is what i am ultimately trying to achieve)

Bushi - thanks for the info - I achieved what I wanted by switching the Document Display Style to Texture-Shaded. I had forgotten all about that! thanks again
