Subject: versatile 64 bits download? ;-)

angora ( ) posted Fri, 28 March 2008 at 5:22 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 9:53 AM

Hi!

I do have a question if I may?

I understood that Vue will define itself whether to install as a 64-bits version or .....?

'My' Vue 6 Infinite is an update for Vue 5 Inf., download version.
I remember a choice between 32 and 64 bits when downing the pre-release, but can't recall
if that was the case with the final...
I did consider to order a boxed version, but haven't yet due to veryyyy expensive shipping rates.

I know that the CD in the box is 'good' for Windows AND Mac (at least for Vue 4 Pro & Vue 5 Infinite, which are both in a nice! box here) and the download version isn't... but what about
32 and 64 bits versions?

My laptop is 32 bits, but the newly ordered heavy-duty-machine has 8 gig of ram on board...

Do I have to order a boxed version to obtain my proggie in 64-bits?
Would anyone be willing to answer that?
Or should I send E-on an e-mail? ;-D

A big thank you for a possible answer in advance!!!

I bought Vue6Inf when I had a 32 bit windows PC, I now have a 64 bit windows PC also with 8 Gig RAM.
Vue installed itself on my new machine and installed correctly as the 64 bit version!!
Incidentally my Vue6Inf was also an update from 5Inf and was download version!

Injustice will be avenged.

Hi Fixer!

T H A N K   Y O U  soooo much!!! Truely & greatly appreciated!!!

Does Vue tell??? (it's installing as 64 bit?)

(Not a coward and never a pessimist, still I was not looking forward to contact E-on... ;-D
Although I liked 'them' very!!! much when the download-link for the Extra's CD didn't work: very friendly & helpful!
But I most certainly do not intend to buy Vue again against full price, just because the system requirements were not too realistic... and couldn't either since I just spent 'the fortune' on a new machine (+ Eizo screen) ;-D
Can't imagine 'they' would ever suggest something like that, though, but still too?? clearly remember the warning with the download that there won't be any resets for ($$$$$$$$$!) Vue... Still fair enough, but still scary...?? ;-)
So, against everything I believe in... behaving a bit spooked. Forgive me? ;-D)

I know you have 8 gig... sort of copying your machines here! ;-D
Thanks a lot for your advice... again!!!

Yeah, it auto installs to 64 bit version on 64 bit systems :)

Agreed that it's damn silly of E-On not to allow free downloads of a bought product! Adobe does that and they are greedy sods ;)
(bought Photoshop CS2 from their online store, free downloads)

8 gig ram  machine, if it runs good, lets Vue play like it should do on 32 bit mahcines :D

Where did you see that e-on charges for re-download?  I had to download a few times, never had a charge.  You can even have e-on reset your downloads if they expire.  Once you download I recommend you burn it to CD - then you have exactly the same CD as you would if you bought the boxed version (yes - Mac and PC).

Now AsileFX training DVDs - they do charge to re-download after the three day period...  Adobe - I refuse to buy downloaded software from them - lousy support.

Just log into your account.  The only part that's tricky - you need to scroll down and click on the order, but it does not "look" like a link.  From there you will get the instructions on how to download.  I think it sends an e-mail.  At worst, you have to call tech support or fill out a trouble ticket, which is why it's a good idea to have it on CD :)

Hi!
THX! THX!

No one said E-on charges for re-downloads! (except my twisted imagination, making up 'bad scenarios'? ;-D).
I know one can always ask for re-sets @ Cornucopia: fabulous support!!!
But E-on... can't recall what the exact message was- something like: back-up strongly recommanded, BECAUSE............. these are the only chanceS to download!
& download-link will expire within.......
Thankfully there were 2? downloads granted and OF COURSE my server went down at the first attempt! ;-D

Now I 'own' like 4 Vue 6 Infinites: on 2 external discs, on a 'good quality' CD, on a back-up CD... ;-D
But we all know these home-backed CD's can die after some time... ?
(and my Vue 'hierarchy' is hilarious! Vue 4 download + sidegrade Vue 4 pro (E-on CD from box) + upgrade Vue 5 Inf (E-on CD from box) + Vue 6 Inf download. Will be needing them all! ;-D Thus scary?)
Do I need every update btw? Or just the 6.5?

But I like your response, Peggy, thank you!!! :-D
Would be nice to have misunderstood?!!

As for E-on... 'they' do LISTEN though... :-D
In a survey (end of 2006?) I stated that I had no intention of buying Vue 6 whatsoever, because I thought it was outrageous the price was the same in Euro's as it was in dollars (you have to locate yourself on a map? ;-D), meaning we had to pay a couple of hunderd dollars MORE!
-end of 2006-
They altered that!!!
And better: best bargain for Vue 6 pre-release was for Vue4Pro AND Vue5Inf. owners...
owww, BLESS THEM!!! :-D

Boxed is definitely a good idea... I like these big boxes, especially the 4pro 1 with a set of (post)cards with Thomas Crahn pics...
BUT...
(containing also the bills ;-))
Vue 4 Pro sidegrade Euro 299 + Mover 5 E 99 = E 398

  • shipment E 25
  • VAT E 82,91
    Total = E 505,91 (arrgghhh lol)
    &
    upgrade Vue 5 Inf E 149
  • shipment (from Paris) + vat = E 206,91

Also here: Poser 4, 6 & 7 boxed... I LOVED the package, containing Poser 7 upgrade.
It said: "value $10,-"!  LOLLL
-wish they had said that before checking out ;-D -

I kinda miss the box.  I've had Vue since version 4 and still have all the boxes, and the Poser boxes, and Bryce boxes...  Makes a pretty display on the shelf.

You only need the latest update for Vue.  Newest beta patch is Version 6.60 - Build 292547.

and the new box is as black as the interface... aaahhhhh
The new box looks terrific! ;-D
(you must have a long shelf! LOL)

the more colours & little pics, the happier I get, tsss... ;-D
didn't you looove the cards & cartboard 'wrap' in the V4 box? ;-D
(although I think CD's will live longer in plastic? ;-) Do they? THE reason to purchase a box!)
& and manual, yes (bought the book instead)
finally got Bryce 'in the flesh', but still no box, 'just' a (DVD)case... ;-D

Thanks a lot, Peggy!!!
(won't be needing any Vue 5 updates either, won't I? -born digiliterate here, sorry!-)

What about Mover? Last time didn't even install (in 5 Inf) and Poser-imports were just as good (or lousy). Mover is exit with Vue 6?

With the 6.5 update Vue finally started to 'behave'... on the laptop! That was good... also new! :-D
(Acer Aspire 1714 SMi, P4 3,4ghz, 2048 ram, almost 4 years old now...
but graphics card just nVidia 5700, only 128mb and it died... :'-( ).

Yesterday picked up the new card, nVidia NX 8800 gt OC 512mb (no good reviews for 8800gt 1024mb or even $$!9800!). Does any of you have more then 1 graph. card on board???
The case is covered with mesh! (Vue is HOT?) and it actually does have an exhaust pipe! -well, sort of- ;-D Waiting now for the memory & discs to arrive...
