I'm doing a scene with a large mirror but  one of the lights is glaring on the mirror. Is there any way to keep this from happening aside from turning off the light or moving it?

How about switching the light to Spotlight mode.  You could then
aim it away from the mirror, or possibly set its Dist Start and Dist End
so that its range of illumination stopped before it hit the mirror.
(You could also do the latter with a Point light.)

Try setting the light's specular color to black, in the material room.  It will not affect the light's intensity or direction.
