Subject: Which works best: plane, infinite plane, or terrain

I need advice for "worldbuilding". This is a change from my previous work with interior scenes. I am making a terrain, over which action is occuring in an area about the size of a small town. The obvious thing would be to insert a terrain, but these are limited to a certain size. Distance shots or changes in camera angle suddenly show the edge of world.
Is it any easier to use an infinite plane and put other features on it? Terrains of Spain on the plane? Ha, ha. Seriously, I am wondering what choices other people have made to avoid this "Edge of the world" problem.

You can make a terrain any size you want--not just the default size. You can duplicate them/have a number of individual ones, some in forgraound, background. mid ground., Have them is islands/mountains in an infinite plane sea/land. Stretch them, flatten them.

Yes, thanks. I hadn't thought of just duplicating a terrain, as needed, to "cover up" any gaps revealed by camera movement. Funny how things seem so much clearer after putting out the question.
I did try changing the size of a terrain AFTER I had customized it. Bad-bad. It reset to flat, but luckily I was just playing with settings at the time, trying to get the feel for how to work the shaders to get what I envision.
These terrains are great fun, I am looking forward to the project.

Using 'realistic sky' will also give you the option to have fog in the scene, so the horizon can be obscured.

When I do something like that, I usually create a terrain edge using mountais, hills or ocean.  This way if the edge shows, it just looks like a natural horizon.  You can see this in a few of my renders here,  Make sure to watch the scale and use depth of field to get it to look right.

I have tried the suggestions with great success. Thanks for the help. I also found the "zero edge" option in terrains from watching Mark's tutorial. That helps sometimes for blending a couple terrains.
