Subject: Hi back after a long time and have a few questions for you P6 masters...

First Problem: I am having trouble Doing a "fire fly" render with full resolution textures.  it tells me that I need to reduce my textures, reduce my bucket size, or ditch the texture filtering.   All of which reduce the render quality.   So does anyone know a fix for this?   Because its kinda usless to have a render engine that wont render final images.

System:  3.2 gig AMD duel core, 2 gig of ram, and an invidia 7600 GS with 512 meg on the card.

The secound problem:
More fustrating problem is that if i have more than 3 to 5 figures on a sceen (Including cloathing) that my body, Eye, & lip textures get all messed up.    The body renders with the hair texture, but it looks fine in the materials section of the program.
Image is atached to show what i am talking about.

The 3rd question:
Is there a seting i can click to make it so that the Pz3 files dont produce a side car file (PMD's)   The Pmd files make organising a bear...   I thought i saw it once but havent found it since.

First question...

Definitely get rid of Texture Filtering.  That will actually decrease quality if you use it.  Reducing Bucket size won't compromise your render quality but it may help Poser render your image, even if it takes a little longer.  For most purposes, reducing texture size won't greatly affect your render quality but it's something I don't use.  You can also try breaking your scene into smaller pieces then comping them back together in Photoshop.  I use this a lot.

Second question...

Dunno, sorry.  It's possible that a texture reference is screwed up somewhere but nothing reallysprings to mind.

Edit - General Preferences.  Go to the Misc tab and uncheck the "Use external binary morphs" option.

Texture filtering - it kind of depends on the texture.  If you have a very low rez texture for the resolution you are rendering at, texture filtering can help - it anti-aliases the texture and can help avoid having the texture appear pixelated.  If the texture is high enough resolution that isn't so valuable.  Its main purpose is to keep textures from showing moire patterns when animating the texture, so for use in stills it is often better to turn it off as Sam says.

Sam is right, that bucket size has no effect on render quality - or at any rate, it SHOULD not, but sometimes bucket size causes artifacts to appear in rendering.  That shouldn't happen though.  The number is how large a square of pixels will be rendered per iteration of the renderer - 64 means the rendererer will process a 64x64 grid of pixels per step.  Making it smaller requires less memory at render time.

Regarding your texture going nuts, that is very strange - how is it supposed to appear normally?  Is anything non-standard going on, do you have the models or textures in an external runtime?  It may be something like the path to each texture is too long for Poser to process, that's a wierd one.

Minimum shading rate also has a big impact on memory use at render time - while making it very low can really make texture very sharp and clear (some people maket it 0 for this reason, although it is capped internally), on the other hand if your render won't complete otherwise, you can make it larger and see if your render will finish.  I usually set it at .2.

Ok well thanks for th first 2 answers, i have never herd of a bucket size before...

Now for the textures:

All of the textures are from the "Girl next door" figure.   4000 X 4000 jpg's.   I have even tried to re-istall with no luck.   and the textures work fine till i add a few cloathing objects in.   and it is like clock work it renders nuds fine, but you try to cloth them ad it tweeks out.   even with the cloathing hiden.   So am i the only one with this problem?  Its fustrating I want to fix this so i can learn all the new lighting fetures.  but dont want to do so till the texture platform is stable.

Just checked and no, there is no ither runtime file except for the empty one that is in the P6 downloads folder

Does this happen every single time you add multiple models to a scene? what happens if you set up the scene, save the scene, close Poser and open it and go straight back to that scene?  it seems likely to me that you're seeing a bug in Poser 6.

Have you updated to the most current version of P6 service release?

Oh! i did not know thre was an update, i tried to look for one but e-frontiers web page is gone so it never finds one, i'l try it now.

As for how often...  well it hapens alot bt only if there are more than 5 or so large textures.    But if i look at all the ones it is holding in memory, it list a ton of them, so may be thats part of the problem.  Is there a way to reload textures, or clear the memory for unused ones?
