Subject: Extra Texture Map for Bodyparts

globo ( ) posted Mon, 28 April 2008 at 7:57 AM · edited Thu, 15 August 2024 at 3:50 PM

Hi,

I'm new to poser so please be gentle if it's a stupid question.

How do I get poser to use a texture/bump map for certain body parts? Or how do I create a UV map for a bodypart that has one already?

I'd like to make one for the areolas since they get blurred quite a bit when zoomed in.

Can anyone give me a hint?

Morning Globo, if your image gets blurry in close ups, I don't believe that you can do much to change that.  What you need is a better texture map (these texture maps vary all over the place from low, mid, to high resolution.

Now that said, you can change the texture of any body part to anything (from rocks to automobiles to planets).  You can change bump maps of any body part to anything.

For areolas,  Its rumored that there are a "few" sites on the web that "may"  have close up details of the subject area, I'm told that you simply down load a picture, cut out the area and apply it to your texture map and SAVE it as a DIFFERENT NAME.  Then in the materials' Room, apply your .jpg to the diffuse color channel and bump channel.

Few sites:  Approx, 500,000,000--I'm told
May want to move the slider of your cookie filter all the way up (found under tools, Internet Options, Privacy menu) before surfing--I'm told.  Jan

Hi Plutom,

thanks for your thoughts. I've tryed google, and you were right, there are a few sites offering pictures of nude women. So there's no problem getting real life examples. ;-)
How do I get a template for the areola without the body around it as with the standard texture maps? Maybe that is what I should have asked for.

Before you delve into texture making, perhaps the texture you have is just not being rendered with sufficient precision?

If you're in P6, turn of texture filtering in render options. Verify that your Max Texture Size is not down-sampling the color map and bump map. If you have 4K textures, but your Max Texture Size is 1024 or something, you're blurring the image.

If you're in P7, turn it off in the material room, on each Image_Map node. Choose "None".

If you're still not satisfied, or that's already done, then go in you're render options, set the Min Shading Rate to .5 or even try .2 and Pixel Samples to 3.

Make sure you're not using any Post filtering.

Min Shading Rate will increase render times, but it may be worth it.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Getting a template is fairly easy.  Select the figure texure map you want and import it into PSP or PS.  Next build two more layers above it.  In the top layer, paint over the areolas in white.

In the layer just below, fill it with black (you should now have two white circles on a black background.  Merge all the layers.  You now have a template.  Save it as a .jpg (NEW NAME)

Put any design you wish in the white circles

In Poser, bring up your figure and in the materials room, click on one of the areolas.  Then in PoserSurface>Diffuse_Color, click on the male plug >new node>2d textures and load your .jpg

The two white circles will cover the figure's areolas.  If you have any design in the circles, they will show up on the figure.

This technique is good for tatoos, eye masks,  gloves, etc.  Jan
